63w questions!

Hey guys! New to LED's not growing. I am looking at setting up a little stealth cab as a bed side table! However, before i get the cab and the light I would like to have it all planned out.

https://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...2&marketID=48v

is the table I am looking at. I know the light is 16" wide but do you think it will squeeze into that cab? Also do you think there is enough vertical room for the plants to grow ~2.5 feet after the light is set up. Please let me know I am eager to order one of these lights. Does anyone have any other cab ideas? I live in LA and have no power tools at my disposal. Thanks so much!

That looks like an awesome stealth cabinet Keif! Our 63W light needs about 1.5" of space above the light for adequate ventilation. So keeping that in mind, the 63W unit is only about 2.5" thick, meaning the light and venting space require 4" total. If you kept your finished plants at 6" below the light, that means all in all you need 10" of space from the top of the cabinets to your plant canopy. Since it is a 36" tall cabinet, that should give you around 26" of space to work with inside for your plants.

Great thanks for the quick response! I am wondering more about the width now. I know the light is 16 long but this cab is 16.5 wide. hmm. i may need to find another somewhere =(

Yeah the cabinet sides would definitely be thicker than a half inch put together, so it would be hard to cram the 63W in there now that I take a second look at it.

How much heat do you think there will be in a small cabinet around that size? I have had many problems with temps hitting 86 with CFL's and fans going full bore in a cab like that. I hope LED will be better

Ask MeanBean He's your man for grow cabs. I don't suspect they would raise the temp much over 85, but it really depends on your outside temps and if you vent the cabinet at all.

Looks great, and like you said, make sure you have some mylar or something on the back side of the louvers so you block the light
