Hi all!

I'm moving from Europe to Vancouver BC in less than two months. My new workplace will provide me with a visa.

My question is:

If I get caught with a small amount of weed (1-50g). What will happen? Is my visa in danger in any way?

If not, whats the limit when my visa is in danger (if at all).

Possession of cannabis is a criminal code offence in Canada.

If you get caught with illegal drugs you MAY face deportation, incarceration or both.

Nothing positive comes out of a criminal record my friend :(

In Vancouver BC I'd be surprised to see the crown pursue charges on a 2oz or less possession case.

As well, in my limited experience, the cops would just take your weed and send you on your way..

That being said, yes, any conviction would be a negative thing for you, especially on a work visa.

I guess I will have to keep out of their sight. It's kind of a bummer because it's my main reason to come over. I'm tired of always looking over my shoulder here. Not that it is legal in Vancouver or anything but I hear they don't care as long as you try to be discrete.

The cops don't hassle cannabis users unless you hassle them. There is a large outdoor drug market on east hastings, right near the Vancouver PD headquarters. They never bother the zombies (meth and crack heads) unless someone causes shit.

If you grow cannabis, keep it a secret. You could have a visit from the cops or more than likely, an armed robbery.
