I hear ya zep. I'm in the same boat. I've tried the aerocloner, as well as soil. I'm going to try water cloning today as my last hope with this particular Afghani crop. Good luck bud.
On a side note...I've noticed that there are a couple different active ingredients, depending on what rooting powder you buy. Right now, I have Gardentech's Rootone which has Naptheleneacetamide and thiram as it's active ingredients(although I've seen others with a different active ingredient). Any pointers as to which active ingredient is better? Thanks

Hey guys, there was a good post on here about cloning. Basically, the clones are placed in a cup with water and perlite. The perlite floots and supports the clone in the water. Very simple and cheaper than the aerocloner I bought. Use some rooting gel and results should appear in 2 weeks.

I got roots appearing off a flowering WW in 10 days.

Here is how I would do it if I was going to clone. [list=1][*]Prepare a PH balanced tub of water[*]Figure out which spots you are going to cut[*]Cut the clones 1/2 to 1 inch longer than needed[*]Place into the tub of water[*]With a sharp scalpel make a 45 degree angle cut at the proper length of the clipping (all under water)[*]Take your rapid rooter, that has been soaking in a seperate tub of PH balanced water with a little liquid root stimulator[*]Place it in the tub with the prepared clipping, insert the clipping into the rapid rooter[*]Place in an apropriate sized container[*]Follow through with standard levels of light, humidity, and temp.[/list=1]

By keeping it under water for most of the process you greatly reduce the risks of air clogging the clippings ability to absorb and liquids.

Just keep the rapid rooters covered, in order to give the roots darkness, and make sure that the moisture levels are well maintained.

I would keep them in an altered aquarium and partially cover the top with plastic wrap to control the humidity levels. There are much more advanced ways but this way also works.

-Yea.. -Clonin's the stick in my spokes too. -I got everything elce dialed in pretty good but Im goin nuts growin roots! -Im gonna make me a bubbler tomorow. -Im stickin 8 (if they fit) -3 inch net pots threw the lid of a 5 gal bucket and sinkin a bubblin thing to the bottom of it. -Im not really hip on bubblin but I guess 6.4 is a good ph to try. -Its what I do for the rest of my system. -My mothers in coco chor and I flower my clones aero. -Ive never bubbled before but I thnk Id do best to just stick the cutting rite into the gro rocks bein that a rockwool cube would probably get in the way of the bubbles that are tryin to get at my root aeria. -A peice of aluminum foil with a hole poked threw it would probably hold the cutting upright and keep the root zone dark. -I'l let you know how it came out!

-I had company all friday and today but I did manage to (between company) make my bubbler. -I got an air stome instead of tubeing with holes. -I found an old spakle top to fit on mt buket. A paint top wouldnt do because of the pouring spout but a 5 gal spakle lid works great! -You just fallow around it with your 3 inch hole saw about a quarter inch from each other to fit 7 and then put one in the middle to make 8. -Anyhow- Im gonna fill my net pots and take some cuttings tomorow morning. -Is anybody interested? -Should I post my progress?

Ah yes... cloning... While I am no cloning guru I did finally get a great method down that requires no construction, bubblers, perlite or voodoo.

Things I use...

Peat pellets [these are available at your local mart. 72 to a pack.

Clean, sharp Scissors
cold water in a nice glass.
Poker of some sort. (I use a chopstick)
Rooting compound. (I use Schultz Take Root®)
Spacious Tupperware container with clear lid. (This will depend on the number of clones you are going to cut.)
Heating pad.
Good selection of music.


Soak yer pellets in tap water with a miniscule amount of Superthrive® added to the mix. They will swell considerably and will take about 10 minutes or so to do it. While they are swelling up, take your glass of cold water, scissors, music and rooting compound. and head for the donors. Find the branches you want to trim from, clip em good and dunk em in the cold water. At this point it doesnt matter the angle as you will be cutting them once more. Stop and dance around, listen to the music and tell your plants you love them. Now back to work...

Assemble your pellets in the tupperware and commence to poking holes in the already prepoked holes. I like to put a fairly deep hole in em. Almost to the bottom. Select your cutting and decide how long you want it. Make the final cut on a 45° angle, dip the tip in the rooting compound and pop it in the pellet of choice. Repeat as necessary. Once the tupperware is full, I like to go in and squezze out excess water. This will ensure:
A) your clones dont drown (Because that sucks!!!)
and
B) the pellet fits snugly round your cutting.

Wish your babies luck, close the lid and put em on the heating pad set to low. Place under fluoros about a foot away.

I cant say how long this'll take. Anywhere from 5 to 50 days, depending. I leave em in there til they either root or die.
