Avoid any soil that has those time release fertilizer pellets. The soil is typically far too hot for the average young MJ plant. Not sure about adding other organics to your soil like Red said, but I would definitely pick up a small bag of Dolomite lime (garden lime) and some perlite. Nothing wrong with doing what Red said, its just I am a liquid fert user and always have been for the most part.

check this https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=53792 it has the info you are looking for. I don't know if you will find all the stuff at HD or lowers but I'm sure if you look around your town you will find what you need.

My local True Value sells bags and bales of Pro-Mix; that stuff ROCKS! For seeds/seedlings, straight Pro-Mix is fine, better if you mix it with EWC, perlite and dolomite lime. Perlite and dolimte lime are sold at Lowes/Home Depot (but watch out for the Miracle Grow perlite that has nutes mixed in). EWC might be a little harder to find, try local nursuries (the ones for plants, not kids
)As the plants get bigger and need nutes, that's where you are faced with a ton of options: bottled nutes, soil amendments, teas, etc. IMO, if you want the absolute best soil growing method for a newbie, check out the Organics for Beginners thread and seriously consider LC Mix #2 and Dry Recipe #1. I'm not sure what link Hashy provided, but it wouldn't surprise me if he linked you to the thread I'm talking about. With the exception of the EWC and Liquid Karma, I found all of the other ingredients by visiting True Value and Lowes. |

If you cant find earthworm castings. mushroom compost is probably the next best thing. Or you could start up a bin and make your own.

Jiffy starter for seedlings, Miracle Grow for anything in full veg. I know some people would say go with a lot of amendments and that's really at your disgression. Maybe some perlite, maybe some lime. Sometimes you gotta flush it before you start sometimes not.

I know BOG use to have a soil mix that he used to get great results from. Take a look around for one of his threads. Good Luck.
