2nd grow ...
What up - what up.
My first grow went really well and can be seen here, although I must admit Ive got a lot of hot chilli and veggie experience so that helped out: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=147410 That was 100% an experimental grow, started with CFL's and adapted to a 250 HPS for the sole purpose of getting acquainted with a new plant. It went well. Im shooting to construct a new area 4'X4'x7'. 600w HPS, 6" aircooled reflector with 400+ CFM vortex/scrubber etc, etc. Just a few simple questions for ya: 1) Am I out of line to think I can pull 2 OZ dried per plant in 3 gallon containers with a decent yielding strain (clones)? Im shooting for 9 plants in 3 gallon square pots - soil. 2) Im planning on vegging to 12-18" or so hoping for a finish at around 3' per plant... am I off base in this respect assuming an indica cross or indica dominant strain? 3) What do you think about even fitting 9 plants in 3 gallons in that area? Gonna be cramped isnt it??? I realize its all relative, skills, nute program, strain etc, etc. 2 OZ dried off 3 gallon soil pots under a 600 ... generally speaking though ... shouldnt be to terribly tough to achieve I wouldnt think.. from everything Ive read? Pretty much just looking for confirmation to make sure my heads in the right spot otherwise I might need to change plans for the grow area. ![]() ![]()

18 ounces off of one 600 watter is just about the best you can do, so I would shoot more for about 12 ounces and hopefully be pleasantly surprised (its only your second grow so dont discourage yourself by shooting for too high of a goal.) 3 gallon pots are just about 1 foot across. 9 of them in a 4x4 room is totally reasonable.
Ways to increase yield: Supercropping: You can watch videos on this on youtube if you arent familiar. Basically you are training the plants. I love supercropping my girls. Rotate plants 1/4 turn every day (if you can) to ensure even light coverage on all sides of the plants. Dont veg too long. If you fill the canopy space and then switch to 12/12 they will continue getting bigger and eventually be fighting with eachother for light. Switch them over to 12/12 when they still have a little space between them so when they reach full size they will fill in the space perfectly Maximize your nutrient system. I recommend something complete in all 16 essential nutrients. Dyna Gro is a good choice. They have an excellent line, especially for beginners, because they have one part base nutes. No mixing three parts. Also they only have 2 additives so you are never mixing more than three products. I highly recommend this line to maximize your yield. Grow, Bloom, Pro-TeKt, Mag-Pro. There are plenty of good nutes out, Dyna is super concentrated, complete, and easy to use so I prefer it, but im sure you will do fine with another line. Just make sure it has all 16 essential nutrients before you dump a bunch of money. Last edited by candypurp; 04-08-2010 at 12:03 PM.. Reason: typo |

Edit: I tried to post this last night at like 2:00 am but my internet cut out and then I went to sleep.

2) Those heights are close, but you might wind up with some 30" and some 42" so you'll need to move the plants around if that happens, keep the short plants under the light. 3) Yes, it is definitely going to be crowded when it comes to the branches from each plant. You're going to need to do a fair amount of manicuring from the bottom up just to let them grow without training. Bonus![]() The problem I imagine you're going to run into is running an indica in a 3 gallon soil planter for more than 90 days seed to harvest; you'll probably wind up with a root lock problem. Look around at the hydro stores online for 15L planters, that's probably perfect sized for the area and the grow period. Another option is coco, it's very similar to soil, but with closer to hydroponics gains. I'd also like to mention that you should definitely look into scrogging. You could probably do 6 plants in that area and pull like 3 ounces off of each without too much heart ache. Depends on the strain of course, but scrogging could work well for you if you can afford another 10 to 14 days of veg to fill out the screen. Another option would be a coliseum style grow with a vertical bulb. As I've been pondering growing I find this method to be EXTREMELY attractive. Do a little homework into these methods and see if they are for you. |

Thanks for the input, Im not wanting to go SOG at all as Ild like to keep my plant numbers within reason.
I pulled 1.75 OZ dried off that first grow, on only two plants finishing at about 2' in 1 gallon pots so Ild hope to think I could pull 2 oz per 3' plant in 3 gallon pots. Just got done trying some of it for the first time too... after a few months cure. Im pretty happy ![]()
