Say "Good Bye" to gashogs!

Many will disagree with me but IMHO it was about time to scrap those 10MPG Trucks and SUV's.

One can get around and haul things just fine with a vehicle getting much better fuel mileage than wasting our fuel resources on many of the current models.

Personally my truck (!) gets 48MPG, is almost 30 years old and although it has a non-stock younger engine in it even the old stock engines allowed 30+MPG's!

And no you don't need to do what I am doing (driving an old fuel efficient vehicle) to save on gas.
You don't even need to drive some fancy schmancy Hybrid to do so!

The Germans introduced awesome technology quiet a while back called TDI engines nowadays reaching from a little 1.2 litre TDI three-cylinder common rail engine to VW's V-10 TDI diesel delivering 750 Nm/310HP of pavement peeling power sitting in an SUV.

Here is a little read-up about TDI technology: https://wapedia.mobi/en/VW_TDI

Well I could go on and on but I'll stop here.

Tougher fuel efficiency rules

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration is setting tough new
gas mileage standards for cars and trucks.

Final rules for fuel economy that are set to be signed Thursday
are aimed at getting more miles to the gallon from the next
generation of gas-electric hybrids, efficient engines and electric
cars.

For 2016 model-year vehicles, fuel efficiency targets are being
set at 35.5 miles per gallon combined for cars and trucks, an
increase of nearly 10 mpg over current standards.

The Environmental Protection Agency is setting a tailpipe
emissions standard, the first rules ever for vehicle greenhouse gas
emissions.

President Barack Obama says the new fuel-efficiency requirements
will save 1.8 billion barrels of oil.

Angry

Ford has been producing a 3 cylinder diesel truck in europe for years, gets unreal mileage. BUT, they can't sell it here because tree-huggers hate diesels. bio-diesel burns nicely in them, & pollutes far less than regular diesel. i don't see a problem, except from narrow-minded assholes that think we should all walk or ride bicycles everywhere we go.

yeah, i'm sure it was all those tree huggers in the Bush administration that blocked sales of a more fuel efficient vehicle.
Ford sold and manufactured those vehicles there because europe has much higher emissions and mileage standards than the US, and have for years. so to compete they had to produce something that would meet the specs. they aren't sold here because Ford has no interest in undercutting their lucrative 15mpg truck market and only become more efficient when regulated by law.

I can very well understand you hating them...after you had gone 600 MPH and 60 miles later down the road when your tank is empty I'll still be cruisin' along for another 700 miles w/o refueling giving you a ride to the next gas station!

PS: My car was made in Pennsylvania. FYI that's in the USA as well.
