Day 51: Harvest
Quote:
I used to think I wouldn't want to grow feminized seeds. Never tried it, but was not a fan. Well, I have changed that opinion. I am so glad I grew Female Seeds strains this year. Beautiful plants, easy to grow, strong structure, great buds, and none of the hassle with pollen and such. Thanks again for all the customer support, Bean. Hey Emeraldo,
So, let's try to resume. How long veg, how long flowering and any info concerning the harvest, I mean did you actually weight those lovely buds? Thanks again for your kindness, it makes us very happy and proud that people like you are so grateful and pleased with our seeds. These are the words that make us willing to work better and harder every day. Thanks again and keep up the good work. All the best, Mr B. Quote:

Purple Maroc Grow Data
Thanks Bean for the follow up question. It is good to take stock.
This was an "outdoor" grow. I germinated indoors under a lamp and by a window, then took the seedlings out for sunlight after 10 days, after 14 days they stayed in the greenhouse at night to harden off. Germination: April 28 Vegetative: from May 10 Beginning July 28, the plants were kept at night in a light-tight room with circulation fan, 12.5 hours dark, then outside during the day for 11.5 hours. Flowering time. This is where I have to guess. For both plants, flowering started before I began bringing the plants indoors at night on July 28. PM 2 had pistils July 8, PM 1 on July 29 (the day after the light schedule was changed). I had the impression that the 12.5 hours of darkness after July 28 may have "accelerated" the flowering on these FS plants with "early flowering" genetics. If the auto-gene kicked in (invisibly) in late June or early July, the artificial darkness may have sped things up. Another way of saying that is that the plants started flowering "from the inside" in a way that was not visible (apart from stretching) to the eye, soon after the summer solstice on June 20. Could this be the "secret genetic sauce" of Female Seeds?... ![]() However, that is all guesswork. Here's what I know to be fact: There were two Purple Maroc plants in this grow, and each of them began to show pistil growth on different dates. Normally, I would start to count "flowering time" from when pistils appear. I expected to do that this year, but it doesn't make sense to do that. PM 1: Pistils first seen July 29. PM 2: Pistils first seen on July 8. So for PM 2, if we take "visible pistils" as the start of very early self-induced flowering on July 8, then this plant flowered for 7 weeks. That is what Female Seeds indicated, and it is pretty darn fast. In contrast, PM 1 was vigorous during veg but did not have the extreme vigor of PM 2. PM 1 did not show pistils until July 29. That was three weeks after PM 2 showed pistils. Notwithstanding this difference, PM 1 was very ripe for harvest on August 29, with only 4.5 weeks of "flowering" in between. Now that's really fast, but "flowering" July 29 to August 29 leaves me wondering where the other 2.5 weeks went. It's a mystery which (I hope) Female Seeds can explain. Overview of the grow: PM 1: Topped twice, this plant produced an even canopy of fairly uniform sized roundish top buds with plenty of secondary buds. By late August, a sweet-sour heavy (but not penetrating) diesel odor. Purple stems and calyxes appeared in flowering. Harvested August 28 & 29 (>50% milky trichs). After curing, about 100 gr. PM 2: Fimmed, this plant produced 4 long colas, slender and airy, with fine budleaf. This was the most vigorous plant in the whole grow, and was tied down to keep her from getting too large. Harvested August 25 in one go. Got very dry during drying/curing, total bud weighs about 90 gr. My experience is that Purple Maroc is a robust, healthy, vigorous, beautiful plant that is not bothered by much. Loved my home made organic soil. But I think she would grow just about anywhere, even as a guerilla grow. I would grow Purple Maroc again, using the same time schedule (late April germination) because this is an incredibly easy and convenient way to grow my weed: FS's statement that these finish "by end of August" is confirmed, provided the grower germinates in late April. While I don't want to pry into Female Seeds' proprietary info regarding the genetics of this plant, I am of course curious to know what you are able to tell me specifically about why the plant could flower in unexpected ways. This is of course all the more interesting because I had similar 4 or 5-week flowering patterns with my 2 Sexbud plants, as discussed in that thread. And oh, yeah, the weather was also really great all summer long... ![]() Below a slender, airy bud from PM 1. The bud material is fine and fluffy, crumbles nicely for rolling or vaping: Compared with PM 1, PM 2 lost more moisture, and also bulk and weight, from drying, but will recover during curing. Fits nicely in a smaller jar. The effect is uplifting, long lasting, clear. Both are still curing... Last edited by Emeraldo; 09-09-2017 at 12:54 PM.. |

Hey Emeraldo,
Thank you so much for this long and detailed report, much appreciated. Ok, let's start from the top. First of all is interesting how late the PM 1 flowered, that's a news for us too since is quite strange that it flowered 3 weeks later than the other. Second of all, we are almost 100% sure that bringing the plants inside with a tight light helped the PM1 to flower incredibly fast. The artificial darkness period that you gave her drove her kind of crazy and the plant probably thought that needed to go faster and faster in order to finish flowering earlier. Basically the PM1 was triggered by this artificial solution. In any case, to be honest with you this super fast flowering is a total surprise to us too, I believe you got an unique and special pheno, that's unbelievably fast... Remember when I was telling you about photo-sensible phenos? Well, I believe that this PM1 had a specific photo-sensible pheno which strongly influenced the plant's flowering period. While the PM2 behaved in a normal way, 7-8 weeks is the average for this strain. The genetics of the Purple Maroc are no secret at all. The plant is the product of the crossing of Maroc x Purple Power, crossed for many generations in order to obtain a fast flowering plant, which as you know is an important feature of some of our genetics ![]() Looking forward to a nice smoke report too ![]() Take care, Mr B. Germination: April 28, 100% germination rate. Veg: May 14 to end of June Flowering: Early or mid-July to end of August. I saw first pistils on PM2 on July 8, harvested Aug 25 (7 weeks). For PM1, first saw pistils on July 29, harvested August 28-29. PM1 may have accelerated flowering due to my switching to 12.5 hours of absolute darkness each night beginning on July 28. Growth: Both plants showed vigorous vegetative growth. Very leafy, fine delicate sativa-looking leaves. Adjusted quickly to topping, LST, tying. Buds: Long colas with ample pistil growth and purple calyxes, with fine budleaf. Buds were fat looking, but not dense. Buds dried quickly, losing the appearance of bulk and slimming down considerably. Dried buds are long and slender. Fluffly, pulls apart nicely after cure for smoking or vaping. Yield: About 95 grams per plant. Odor: Not much until right before harvest -- a thinck sweet and sour diesel. Not much at all for the first plant, PM2. But PM1 harvested three days later on August 28-29 had stronger, heavier, thicker sweet diesel smell than PM2. Effect: Uplifting, long-lasting, clear. "Not too strong, not too weak." PM is a good weed for standard use. I can enjoy this weed and go about daily activities and remain focused. Interesting, how PM1 (the faster flowering, later harvested plant with a more intense aroma) seems a bit stronger than PM2. Last edited by Emeraldo; 09-21-2017 at 10:46 PM.. |

You will never be repetitive, don't worry
![]() And thanks once more for reporting the details of your growth, I really enjoyed reading through the various notes. And I also had the chance to learn from your growing method. Take care, Mr B. Quote:

I am also learning from various sources, including you all at Female Seeds. I thought I had a method, but the plants knew better! I am learning from the plants, Bean! It has been a very interesting grow, my first with female seeds (had always grown from regular seeds before). I guess it raised a lot of questions to which it seems the answers are not obvious. Maybe after growing PM again next year or so these mysteries will be cleared up! Thanks again for your good customer support. E Last edited by Emeraldo; 09-30-2017 at 10:36 AM.. |
