Anybody know about CA tenant laws? Landlord wants to inspect again

I just had an inspection a month ago and the landlord wants to come on by for another inspection because he said he wasn't able to inspect everything because containers and things I had in the way, can I refuse this because he said he's coming in with or without me there.

I'm thinking about just moving out so I don't have to deal with this anymore.

That's pretty crazy! I'm not from Cali or anything but he sounds like a dick. You should just leave and he'll be pissed because he'll have to find new tenants and maybe lose some money!

visit california tenant law . com

first off, hes not allowed to enter the building unless hes doing upgrades, showing to prospective tenants, etc.

hes not allowed to just nose in and inspect shit, he needs to give 24 hour notice before when he comes.

so happy i dont rent anymore...we had to employ some crazy shit for my old landlords. tearing down grows, hiding plants in black garbage bags in closets, etc...we even had to rent a storage unit to hide all the flood trays..

Read your rental agreement/lease, it should stipulate when/how inspections are to be conducted.

But, if you have an asshole, snoopy landlord, all the legal papers in the world aren't going to help. Some people have some kind of mental disorder where they feel obsessed to intrude on their tenants. It's like their house is their child or something. Really strange! If you've got that kind of landlord, just give them 30 days notice and get the hell out of there.

If you have a landlord that just needs a little straightening out, do the same thing, give him/her a 30 day notice and tell them they can inspect after you move out. It will cost at least a couple thousand dollars in lost rent etc. if you move, so just play hardball and see how badly they want to inspect. (At the same time, document the excessive inspections. In your 30 day notice, declare a breach of the rental contract due to excessive inspections then sue for your moving expenses in small claims court. You'll probably lose, but maybe not and it'll irritate the hell out of the landlord.)

Inspections like that are incredible.

My family has owned many 10+ rental houses and a small apartment complex and we never did inspections. They would on occasion send me in there with a master key to change the a/c filters every other month, but they didn't have me spy on them or anything.

If I were ever to rent a house, I would ask up front about house inspections and what level of privacy I can expect from the landlord.

I like what pharmacan had to say on the subject, play hardball with him. (i.e.-leave me alone or kiss my ass goodbye)

Do you have a medical licence? If so... Did your land lord tell you no growing and you are violating that? Or are you just not wanting him to know at all?

If your legal I'm just curious why the worries?

Pharma - that's genius. For us ppl renting spaces it can be an utter nightmare. Our landlord comes in all the time now that the main owner sold the place to a new buyer. Same Apt manager, and now there's all kinds of "upgrades" which are really sidegrades or downgrades.. either way they stick their heads in all the time and it's constant drama.
