Would you smoke genetically modified Cannabis??
oh i was just posting about trans-genic plants and how scientists spliced out the genes that code for THC synthesis and introduced them into a plasmid vector (bacterium).....then the scientists put these genetically modified bacteria into a tobacco plant and via conjugation (bacteria "sexual intercourse") genes were exchanged and the tobacco plant became endowed with the THC enzyme machinery of a Cannabis plant.....then when a solution containing THC precursors was poured into this Tobacco plant's roots the Tobacco plant began to express THC on its surface.....
whew! that was difficult to write out..... |

I would be very interested seeing links on that since I find it damn near impossible to think that any branch of science is going to pony up the dough to fund a project to incorporate any aspect of an illegal controlled substance into a commercially consumable product. Especially since theres plenty of other plant species to work with that dont carry the legal ramifications as does THC and tobacco.

I'm dubious because i am finding no mention of this online but, I do know there is ongoing genetics work being done on cannabis to isolate the genes responsible for thc expression of thc, the goal being eliminating it from commercial hemp/fiber lines of cannabis. In addition when isolating genes, introducing them into another species is done commonly to see if they do what you think they do and for practical reasons that I don't recall tobacco is often the choice for a host.
PMZ (Yes they have made glow in the dark tobacco)

The tobacco plant has been studied extensively and is used as a "guniea pig" for experiments. I liked it when they spliced bio-luminescent genes into a tobacoo plant's genome......the whole plant glowed.......It looked pretty cool.......I wanted some to plant in my garden.
