Are Prophet Seeds Difficult to Germinate

Well,

I got a pack of seeds off the Boo two weeks ago, last friday and went thru my normal process. I drop two seeds in DI water for about 14 hours. Both cracked and sank to the bottom, with exposed tap roots. Placed them in wet paper towels inside of a baggy on a heating mat, strangely the tap roots initially retracted. After about two days in the wet paper towels I carefully wrapped both seeds in a very tiny piece of toilet paper and buried them under an inch of hydroton in my rainforest 66, that was Sunday.

Its Thursday and no signs of seedlings yet, just wondering on a general time frame for the prophet babies take to stick thier head above ground.

Frodo, I recommend germing seeds very similar, soaking to crack then transferring to paper towels. Heating mats are usually unnecessary unless cold. Go easy with tha bath tissue, I find it to be very heavy and ends up being a mess, possibly suffocating. After goin' to paper towels, I keep 'em moist but not wet, favoring more of a dry moistness..... I prefer to wait 'till tha tap is fully emerged till transplanting into media. An inch of hydroton is way to much to be buried under, (thats fine when they are a more established plant) bring 'em up.

Hope this helps, stay healthy an' grow HARD,
Steele

Thanks Steele,

I go very light on the Toilet paper, not even the corner of a finger tips worth. I probably have like 1/2 to 3/4 of inch of hydroton on top of them. I have had issues with seeds drying out before, so I keep them at this level and hand water twice a day. Once I see the sprout developing I will clear some of the hydroton away as usual.

Will be doing a grow log here, I'm very excited about these beans. Initially I was going for the MobBoss, but finally decided to get the prophet.

Zomboweed,

Do you remember how many days it took your prophets to germinate?

Thanks

six or seven, if I remember. the others 3 or 4. but under a 400w mh.. I don't know why so many people say they sow without lights. in nature we don't have 3 or 4 days of darkness in the spring. I begin the cycle of light when I put seed in the ground. and besides the heat of the lamp may help.

I'm not a great connoisseur of prophet, perhaps.. I hope somebody other may help best .

Not even going near using hydroton for germination

you use a corner of a finger tip's worth of toilet paper to germ?

wtf does that mean?

use paper towel (like paper napkin) moistened, a whole paper towel, then put the pre-soaked/cracked beans into the towel, fold it over and then put that into another paper towel that is wet/moist not soaking, and put the whole shibang in a plastic bag to keep it from drying out lol

then put that into dark and warm environment

in a couple you'll see nice long tails and can happily transplant to medium of choice

a corner of a finger tip's worth of toilet paper rofl that's gonna work

That's why I almost feel bad for ranting, but....

Perhaps breeders who delete grower experiences if they're negative are missing out on important feedback? As a buyer, I'm disgusted by these practices and am angry that the people on icmag aren't getting the whole picture about strain problems before they buy their seed "

Cornflake,

did you read my initial post!!!! if not here goes!!

So they only get wrapped in the tissue after a 14 hour soak and 2 days in paper towels, then they go in the hydroton.

I've never had an issue until now. I just dropped 2 more seeds so we will see what happens. First two didnt germ. This time they will go from the paper towels to oasis plugs instead of the hydroton.
