Sequoia'a Cannabis Tincture
My personal favorite is
Cannabis Tincture by Sequoia As a Medical Cannabis patient and advocate I have found very good success with Cannabis Tinctures and other methods of ingestion. THIS IS VERY POTENT MEDICINE AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN DRIVING OR OPERATING ANY MACHINERY. START DOSAGE VERY LOW AND WORK UP TO DAILY NEEDS. . Take a gallon jar with a lid and pour in about a 1.75 liter of 100 proof vodka and grind up about 4-8 oz or more of buds and add to the jar. You can use good trim. Let it sit in a dark area and take out and shake (or stir) every day or so. Keep the lid on it as it will evaporate. I don't like alcohol that much, but it is needed as a malaceum (to draw out the goodies from the herb), so I use about a tsp in the am in my hot espresso to disipate the alcohol. If you use the 100 proof you can use a dropper under the tongue, but if you decide to use a higher proof it mayl burn your mouth a bit. This is a convenient way to travel with your meds, keeps the smell down and can be used anywhere. I carry it in an old brown herbal bottle. Actually it is quite delicious in a large icey glass of 7 UP, I call this a "pottail". I usually serve this to other patients that come over and it is quite popular. You can use a double boiler system to distill out the alcohol for those with liver problems and those that should avoid alcohol, but great care needs to be taken with flame around this stuff. Brownies and baked goods are great too with the oil that I make, but the fat and sweets are bad for this ole gal. I usually leave this for weeks in the cupboard and strain it as I use it or I have strained and bottled it...and chilled it to prevent evaporation. This is great for the old rheumatiz. I have also thrown a bag of frozen blueberries or raspberries in for flavoring and antioxidant added to the mix. The elixir has no alcohol left in, so I do refigerate it for keeping. If I leave it in tincture form no need to refrigerate but watch for evaporation. As this is a cold extraction process you get a good product--mind the grinding up of medicine, as previously posted you can get ALL the THC better. But I have started using it as soon as 3 days and strain around 3-6 weeks. Still experimenting...but have done for many years now. healing energy and loving kindness Sequoia Medical Cannabis patient/caregiver/activist GREAT CARE NEEDS TO BE TAKEN WITH FLAME AROUND THIS STUFF |

Ahh, the infamous Green Dragon, MJ counterpart to Absinthe.
The classic recipe calls for Everclear/Grain alcohol with the highest proof possible. And a brewing time of months. I do question the amounts for this and your other recipe (Cooking oil). What is the potency of the product you are using? Seems like the end result would be too strong. Not to mention expensive for the average medical user. Also, try placing the bottle in the freezer while curing. (Like ISO extraction). Make SURE you use 100+ proof (50% or better) alcohol if placed in the freezer. |

Hello KK
A hearty thanks for the suggestions to improve Cannabis Medicine. I am only an old hippy woman who is into experimentation for my own healing. Without the narco-pharmaceuticals that have drastic side effects for me. I am a diabetic and a breast cancer survivor. I do not wish to cause harm and having known addictions in many forms...myself and loved ones...know that there are many "dragons" to chase. Any calculation in the strength are guaged by my personal use only. I have the freedom to use under the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act for several years now and this is only my OWN pathway and truth. I wish everyone to have choices. The amount of Cannabis added to these recipes can be changed. Some may not be blessed with great abundance and quality. I have been doing this for many years and luckily acquainted with many Cannabis breeders and strains for my research. Your freezer method has intrigued me and I think I will try it. I have made the recipe with Everclear/Grain alcohol at 180 proof. It was too potent with alcohol and when I made into elixir lost a lot of volume. VERY POTENT and could be used by patients that may need that effect. All things have a place. Even heroin is used in hospice care and has a use that can be beneficial to mankind. Quite frankly it burned my tongue, when I applied a few drops and I found it unpleasant and unnecessary. That was when I started using 100 proof vodka. I THINK it is better. I also left it sit for many months, and it didn't seem to change much after 6-8 weeks. EXCEPT in the taste. It was much herbier and pungent that I also found difficult to use. I have left alcohol behind me as I never have had a problem with it as many I have sadly seen. Even a beer now will effect my blood sugars and sense of well being for 24 hours. Good insulin control and testing keep bad behaviors at bay. But it is a blessing to be aware of anything that affects changes in our bodies. I try to listen. Since it is so easily made and I have experimentation on myself and other patients who volunteered, I found that titration is part of the the process for me. Not every day is the same. I have no cravings and some days have no need to use this form of Cannabis Medicine. Sometimes a couple of puffs is enough to feel well, and good for social times with other patients. If I want an out of body spiritual experience with possible hallucenagenic effects I will consume a couple of my brownies. They are made with the oil. But a half or quarter of a brownie will only make me feel GOOD. Many people take gelatin capsules and fill with the oil. They take what they need (titrate their dosage) themselves and find much relief from suffering. The Cannabis Oil is a 24 hour process and THC and Cannabinoids seem to bind well in the oil base. They are better than aspirin and ibruprophen in my humble opinion for healing. It can be used immediatly after making... in healing energy and lovingkindness Sequoia |

Thank you for answering my concerns. I am currently supplying 2 medical users other than myself and I would like to try this method.
When using the double boiler with the Vodka method, how much do you evaporate off? I myself am not a teatotaler, but do not especialy enjoy alcohol. I assume you have to reduce the liquid by at least half to account for the proofage. Good health to you, and thanks for sharing your experience. That is, after all, what we are here for, both on this board and on this planet. K.K. |

Making an Elixir
Dear friend KK
How kind you are to be making healing CANNABIS MEDICINE for others. I am a caregiver for several people too. Now when I take the alcohol out I use a slow cooker. Do you have one? Just put it all in and cook until you taste, and alcohol taste is very weak. I like the slow cooker as I have no burner or flame to worry about and alcohol burns off at a low temp. You will know when the steam is coming up that it is working. Then if you like you can strain it with the cheesecloth WHEN IT COOLS! You can put it back into the pot and add blueberries or raspberries for flavor. Cook til it heats up and stir a little and turn it off to cool again. Strain again in cheesecloth. I have been known to get lazy and throw it all in the pot at the same time and just strain it all when I am done. Try it both ways...because you will make this more than once. Blueberries have antioxident properties and is good for you! Raspberries I just do it because I love them!!! I put it in brown bottles and give it away. If you leave it as a tincture (with the alcohol) you can disipate it somewhat by putting your dose in your HOT coffee, tea, or other beverage. I use about a teaspoon to a tablespoon in an espresso each morning. It gets me moving and feeling good for my chores in my sacred garden. I would refrigerate, but when I travel or go to festivals and concerts it is easy and appropriate to use anywhere...people do not yet make an OASIS where patients can medicate. SO WHAT!!...we have tinctures and elixirs. Soon some will have SATIVEX but it will be very costly I am sure! Let me know what you think of it and your patients and if it works for them. I would appreciate very much! Please one note...Cannabis enhances anything that you use it with...other drugs and alcohol, etc. use caution and good sense. For elderly pts. start with an eydropper for titration. NOT for children unless a MMJ patient and under physician's knowledge. with healing energy and lovingkindness Sequoia HEMPWALKER |

I have never had it lose a bit of potency in all the years that I have made and perfected the recipe.
Never heard that before. A friend of mine in his 80's did research at a lab in the 40's and they had cannabis tinctures on hand in the labs old storage areas. He researched the product and ended up as a physician who is cannabis friendly. He said he tried it and found out that it worked well for many maladies. Today this doctor practices in Oregon and has signed over 4000 patients up under the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act. Even in his 80's he has stood up for what he believes. He is not a cannabis user himself. The Board of Medical Examiners just pulled his license in a politcal ruse to keep him from signing up more patients. His name is Dr. Phillip Leveque. This has a different effect than smoking. Much more internal instead of the stonies. You JUST FEEL GOOD! healing energy and lovingkindness Sequoia |

i am very thankful to read this post with so much experimentation and experience being involved. though i probly will not be using this technique anytime soon i will definately be interested in experimenting with it a lot when i am able to get enough cannibus to make it worthwhile. thanks much for sharing your experience. thought id add that i have done this before with mushrooms and it worked the same way as you described, haha it was fabulously potent which could be good or bad depending on what you hoped to do after a drink.

Hello dear Winterykiss
I carry my tincture in an old Echinacea (sp?) bottle with label intact. It does not need refrigeration. If you put it in a hot coffee or tea it will disipate the alcohol in it. I always feel safe carrying it and using it. One caution if you have the bottle with the eyedropper and rubber top do not dump in your purse it will all leak out! Keep the bottle upright. I also ordered brown bottles with regular screw on lids to carry in my bag for travel. The Cannabis oil I make brownies and cookies and other edibles. I take those to parties so all can enjoy. I am very glad to hear that Cannabis relieves your suffering. Let's make it legal in all states and countries on the planet. I feel blessed sharing these recipes with the world. As an Oregon Medical Marijuana Patient at least I have some legality statewide. King j you can use any grade of cannabis, even the trim to make this. The more quality product you can use the better it is, of course. Lots of people use it for hash, but you still need opportunity to smoke, which is not always easy. healing energy and lovingkindness Sequoia
