JLP's Romeo...the interesting counterpoint.

After what seemed like an eternity of grow time from seed, I finally have Romeo and Juliet lying beside one another, jarred up. And let me tell you, I have been severely stoned for the last three weeks now. With a negligable tolerance to boot!

There is nothing better than homegrown organic produce, be it fruits, vegetables, or our favorite all-around-hobby plant cannabis sativa.

There is just something about knowing where your food and smoke comes from, not to mention the knowledge that you didn't pay ridiculous amounts of cash for it nor are you smoking tons of narsty chemicals!

Above is a nice 7.5 gram top cola of Romeo. Its been curing for roughly a month now. It sits atop three varieties of organic heirloom tomatoes; tigerella, druzba, and green zebra.

Tea, anyone?

I thought that this was a fitting display piece for this particular strain of cannabis because it has alot of green/darjeeling tea aromas before it is ground up. This probably has something to do with the lack of curing time, but hey its dry as fuck around here and i've been patient enough so far

Out of the jar and before hitting the grinder this pot has an oddly uncomparable aroma: I sense hints of freshly roasted coffee, cooking meat, followed by a few tones of sweet citrus candy and hints of skunk. The diesel-y, arm-pit like smell this had on the vine and fresh have all but disappeared.

After the grind you are hit with a wave of tropical-fruit like classic "chronic" aromas; wine-like, overwhelmingly piney and tart, hints of grapefruits and hops, and just a touch of the strong sativa spiciness I found in Juliet. As I mentioned there is also a definite "tea" thing going on, with hints of darjeeling and green tea blended with a slightly metallic grassy thing going on. All in all lots of aromas i'm not used to, smoking inferior herb!

The taste, at least at this point, is probably the least impressive thing about this smoke. Everyone I burn it with is amazed by the flavor but I have to say its not as addictively mouth-watering as Juliet. The first few hits are quite tasty, very similar to the aroma, but it gets very rough and harsh on the throat by the end of the pipe. Even with organic soil/nutes there is a peppery bite to the smoke that lingers in your mouth. The vaporizer does the flavor much more justice...probably my favorite way to ingest Romeo.

The buzz on this pot is intense and works on many levels. A warm almost throbby tingle starts at the back of your mouth and works upward to the head like a cold headache without the pain. The initial feeling in the head is like a slight headache; focused at the back and radiating around towards the eyes. No pain at all, just a nice feeling of tension that wraps around your brain like a warm, fuzzy blanket. The buzz seems to grow exponentially in your head within a matter of seconds. The first 30 seconds or so are amazingly haze-like and mind-clearing (soaring)...but its downhill to retard time after that!

This particular pheno has some serious sativa characteristics at least at the onset. Its a jittery, almost amphetamine like tingle at first - but after 5 or 10 minutes the creep starts and everything you know and love about strong cannabis settles onto your conciousness like snow. Time becomes an unfathomable concept: avoid long drives or 8-hour work days on this pot because they will seem like an eternity! That said, romance, music, relaxation, all the things you want make linger a bit more will seem extended. Listening to Abbey Road, a mere blip of ~30 minutes, seems like a sentimental movie of your past - I Want You (She's So Heavy) is an eternal jam on this pot. The high eventually sinks and settles around the cheekbones and behind the eyes and the world gets an amazing "looking into bright lights" blur. Smoking weed is a pretty dreamlike activitity; I remember the first time getting high it felt just like a dream I was in control of and this pot reminds me of that. Even though I feel completely wrecked on this pot, i've noticed that people smoking it (myself included) get just a bit of wonk-eye with little to no redness. Handy!

The reason I titled this post "the interesting counterpoint" is because this pot shares so many characteristics of Juliet, but expresses them in a different way. Understandable for an F2 cross...but something I guess I just didn't expect.

Like Juliet, this pot gives me an instant urge to do something. The feeling is a different take on the "I want to do a 1,000 things at once" feeling of Juliet because with Juliet those 1,000 things were all things I needed to or wanted to do. With Romeo I get a sort of strange anxiety feeling but I don't know exactly what I want to do: and chores and responsibility type activities that were fun to get through on Juliet seem kind of repugnant. Again, not exactly the type of shit you want to smoke on the way to work because you might just decide half way their that you've got better things to do. But you won't know what.

After this speedy inclination towards activity decreases, you are left with a very chilled, lovey buzz that makes you content but not deflated. Just a nice, cruising stone that can be altered: want that amphetamine, jittery feel? Get just a tease off a one-hitter. Want to get fucking wasted? Do a couple of vape-straws or bong-hit. After the latter you will literally sit there stunned, fucking rocked.

Expect long-winded, mismatched, winding eventually to a point rambles on this herb. Making a solitary point in a succinct manner is rough! This is unlike Juliet which gives you a witty repoir.

I feel really lucky to be able to have experienced these genetics. Moreover, this herb introduced me to a strain I will probably be looking for/growing for a long time to come: c99. There is just nothing like getting really fucking blazed but not lethargic or lazy...especially with the snappy finishing times of the strain.

JLP's search to find a perfect partner to reduce c99's annoying stretch and small-yield problems definitely succeeded with the pairing of NYCD. In some ways c99 actually reduced the potency of NYCD, which I actually appreciated. Or maybe the NYCD I've had before was let go waaaaay too long. But I love a heady, active buzz more than pretty much anything.

To me strong indicas are for pain relief, insomnia cures, or just plain occasional hard-core partying but Romeo and Juliet to me are a perfect everyday smoke: Either one can give you a nice subtle enhancement to the day, a green source of active inspiration and motivation, or a completely day-ending crash and burn experience. I might say I choose Juliet overall at this point just because of the flavor and clearer, genius like buzz but I think a wonderful cross could be made from these F2's incorporating what I liked of both of them.

And the last ever shot of Romeo, before the cut and with a regrettably crappy camera phone...
