i guess you can add another one to the "you know you are a grower when..." thread... you know you are a grower when you can't see!

i wonder if some sun tanning goggles would work...

here is how i block the light when i need to get into the tent when the lights are on:

i just took the internal reflector out of a cool tube, then cut a small piece of chain to hang it .
i slide the chain loop onto the worm clamp that is holding the ducting on. it blocks all the lights that would be coming out of the front of the tent, but leaves enough light to see everything.

here is a pic without the reflector blocking the light:

can someone post a link to a good green light that can be used to work in the tent when the lights are out.
thanks in advance.

Wow, thank you.

Haven't been on in a long time. I'm just happy people are learning and saving themselves some unneeded trouble.

Please, tell any grower you know about protecting their eyes. It really seems to be an ignorance in the community.

+1, thank you for your thread, was wondering what was going on with my eyes, purchased a pair of welding goggles, man did it help. With them on I feel like a member of the green ops.

Such a good thread! Even if you don't care about anything but growing, lost vision could take it all away from you anyway....and since bare bulb growing is a relatively new phenom, the long term affects are still to be seen really...

Thanks Celcius, for making this thread.

I'd rather not start a new thread, so i'll ask here first.

Is the only acceptable green light an LED? and are all LEDs created equal? or should I be looking for different ratings and such?

I need welders goggles, i'm getting scared

Its kind of a hard question to answer. But plants and humans 'see' in the light spectrum.

Plants can't 'see' green (510 nanometers), but we can. The cool thing about LED's is that you can select the exact spectrum that is output, but if you could find a CFL or incandescent that had a similar spectrum, it would work just as well.

All LEDs are not created equal, but for this purpose (assuming the spectrum is correct) it doesn't really matter the quality.

I was using multiple sunglasses for a long time, but recently have purchased some IR 5 welding goggles on Amazon. Kicks ass and they are cheap.

Yep, them welding googles are the shit! Got a pair and my eyes are getting better, no more tearing up in the sunshine. Now I wear shades driving, except at night and when it rains. Your eyesight is too precious to waste it.
