just switched to vertical this morning and my steam punk welding glasses are on their way! I'm glad I noticed this thread or I wouldn't have even thought about it!

I've found the best solution to this problem is to just switch off the lights before opening the room. Digital ballasts mean no need to wait before putting them back on. Got a desk lamp in there so i can see when i need to. It means i get to see what the plants actually look like too.

Bulbs need time to cool. Also most digi ballast say not to hot-restrike. Lumatek says wait 20. You know somthin I don't know?

So may i ask: are HPSs dangerous too?
As i understand what is harmful are UV radiations.
Only CFL and MH reach those wavelengths, right?

been doing vertical for many years, I use 5welding googles, but I discovered this face sheild, its great because I can tilt it up so that it protects my eyes from the light but I can still see the plants when I look down

Picked up these today... not the best but assuming they work at all my eyes will thank me! Thank you for this thread... months ago it made me realize the potential harm I was doing to my body without using protection.

what about the glasses they sell in the grow store which slightly resemble glassblowing goggles? (if anyobdy has ever worn glassblowing goggles they know how supremely sweeter they are then welding goggles and more expensive too.) or glasssblowing goggles tehmselves. they allow you to look at fire and see right through it to see how hot the glass is, sort of like polarizing for fire. any ideas

My welding goggles aren't cutting it, I have torch goggles but I really need at least shade 8, if not shade 10 arc welding goggles. Harbor freight, here I come!
