Ordering seeds during the winder through mail risky?

Hello, with the colder winter temperatures we're getting in my area I had a thought the other day regarding ordering seeds through the mail during the winter months. Is it more risky to have seeds delivered during the winter months? Are the seeds likely to get damaged or killed from the colder temperatures and from sitting in a mailbox for extended periods of time?

i'd rather get seeds or anything with a questionable legal status during the holidays...easier for it to just blend in!

just to note: many people store their seeds in the refrigerator/freezer...so i don't think the cold will hurt them too bad

I wouldn't order seeds while weather can be -40. If your winter is mild I wouldn't worry about it. My garden supplies usually start to ship closer to spring.

cold is better than heat for seeds . in the summer they can be heated and dehydrated to death . no matter what kind of seeds you order .

holiday and all, id order now

i would think due to the holidays and the huge amount of mail during thanksgiving and christmas... shipments from all over the world being so common, i would say it would be overloading to really keep tabs... i personally would rather recieve mail now then in summer... best of luck!

personally I think its better to order seeds over the winter months(holiday card sending)..There are a lot more packages and mail being sent over the holidays..Less chance of your package being tampered with, due to high volume.

As far as the cold..I see no problems as stated before cold is better than heat..

peace

I have recieved 4 orders just within the past two weeks, and have more coming. As said before I do not believe the weather is going to be a big deal for the amount of time that the seeds are actually going to be in it. Also with the influx of mail coming through for the holidays it is less likely that you will get one of those pesky US Customs Seizure Letters. Assuming that you are in the US.

I would not worry about the cold so much. IF anything the heat of the summer is more of an issue. I keep my seed stock at 40 degrees f in a small dedicated mini fridge. Should keep them viable for years

cheers,
