Design Questions, 600 watts bare 6ft or 3ft?
I wanna use a 600hps.
I want to SOG so if i use 1 gallon buckets should i build the walls to hold just the same as a horizontal? For instance if my table holds 25 plants in 1 gallon. Should i build the walls to hold 25 plants on each wall? Assuming i will be using 4 walls. Here is where im confused. If i hang a 600 watt bulb that has a 3ft penetration. Does this mean it can penetrate 3ft down and 3 ft up now ? I would never make the grow 6 feet tall. I would like to make it 4ft tall. so it would be 3x3x4 and i can hang the bulb at 3ft. Does this sound reasonable? |

My friend it doesn't sound reasonable at all. 3x3x6 is more effective if you only had four feet the pots would take up about 3/4 a foot leaving you with three 1/2 foot to grow with. Are you scrogging, low-lst'ing? I could go on and on, but just do yourself some justice and have at least 6 foot man. PEACE LUV AND BUD!!

I remember a Black Thumb from back in HG days.........That you Bro ?.....
First off.....You`ll need major air exchange to cool the bulb in such a small area and if you can only use 1-600you`ll needta cover everything that`s not green in reflectix to bounce all the lumens round the area for even coverage on your plants...... Now..... if you`re gonna build angled racks like Heath and I used then the plants will be pointed at the light and you can stack the shelves a lil closer up and down wise but don`t veg very long so they won`t stretch up into the next level`s environment/light absorption....... How will you access the plants........Heath used 4' x 6' with 2-600`s side by side with a ceiling height of I think around 6-6.5 ' and had like 87 plants on 3 levels all round the area but incorporated a lil 18" door to access the plants while having a lil walking room in there...... My setups were octagonal with no plants in the corners and 3-600`s on top of each other with 4 plants on 4 levels using all 4 walls for a plant total of 64 with an access door in one of the corners and reflectix covering walls , shelves , and ceilings.... I never got a chance to try plants on the floor before an untimely retirement but as long as they don`t stretch up too far like I said above I`d suppose the more the merrier as long as ambient temps , airflow , and RH control are covered.......AND the plants aren`t too close to each other sideways OR up and down where they choke each other out competing for environment....... IMO ........either spread the width for 2 lights side by side or raise the ceiling and use 2 lights on top of each other.....Also remember that it`s "inside area" of the room AFTER shelves/racks have been built so even a 3 x 3 area would needta be at least 5 x 5 outside area to accomodate shelves/racks inside....... Bare bulbs penetrate sideways like a mofo but not so much down so that`s where covering everything with shiny shit to compensate for the lack of downward focus comes into play.............. Peace......DHF.... .. .
