Denver Mulling New Dispensary Ordinance

Here's a play-by-play of today's Denver City Council meeting where a new medical marijuana dispensary ordinance is under review. Many issues came up, but few were adequately addressed. They've scheduled another meeting to continue this debate.

5k in fees...should be interesting to see what they come up with as disqualifying criteria for previous convictions.

Tylor Durden is on a distinguished road
At first glance it appears that Denver is taking some serious steps to improve the image and to prevent the wild west situation seen in the California end of this industry.

Adopting the same standards as a liquor/bar license should be most acceptable to all parties, I certainly see this as moving once step closer to putting recreational use on the same level as liquor sales...a good thing for the economy and one step in the direction of gaining better acceptance from the old school reefer madness crowd (if such a thing is actually possible)

From this quote:

"The zoning department will have to look at that, says the zoning administrator, who's called to the table. As it is, you can have a home office and do craft work, even offer a service, but "you can't sell retail." "

What's the definition of "selling retail"? Does that mean home grown product can't be sold at all? Or sold in a dispensary?

Retail means having an establishment where people come to purchase things, basically you wouldnt be able to operate a dispensary from your home.

Now I know what Al Capone felt like.

We love prohibition. Keep prohibition. Prohibition is your friend. Never end prohibition.

So, it is going to be illegal to sell MMJ unless you have a business license and are zoned as a dispensary? Does this include caregivers who sell to their patients? Does this need to be voted on or is it in stone? What's going on here?

I think it is more of a zoning/licensing/taxation issue, and only pertains to the city of Denver.

the way it is written, it sounds as if caregivers in denver can no longer sell to their patients or dispensaries without following the same rules as dispensaries. essentially, anyone who sells meds is a dispensary from the sound of it.
