Co2 Solution?
Hey Irish Growers,
Been away from this site for sometime now, good to see it is still going. Can people give me some info on 1) whether or not they use CO2 in their grows, and 2) what they use to supply the goods? If you buy/rent canisters of CO2, where do you source it, how much, etc? If you go for a cheaper DIY solution (sugar, yeast, water.. other) can u please give details? Thanks in advance, ##Hell9## |

first, if using CO2 you need to have a closed grow room. You can't exhaust the air out of the room since the CO2 will go along with it. This means using an AC to cool the room, making sure there are no air leaks, etc.
There's a bunch of ways to add CO2 - dry ice, fermentation, burning stuff, etc .. but since the first requirement is the expensive one I stated above (closed room), you'd already be putting down so much effort and money that it wouldn't make sense not to get a tank and regulator. You can refill it locally at a weld shop for maybe $15-20. In the long run they're also the cheapest. A new tank + CO2 + valve/regulator etc would run you a few hundred bucks. After that it's just refills.

Hey !!!, thanks for your post but I was hoping to get some info from Irish growers (hence posting in the Eire forum) as I hoped they could tell me somewhere local I can source CO2.

off the top of my head home brew stores
https://www.thehomebrewcentre.com/equipment.htm https://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/ind...dex&cPath=2_25 https://www.grapengraindublin.com/ https://homebrewwest.ie/pressure-kegs...-beer-58-c.asp there is another one in dublin but i just cant remember. also maybe you could talk to some paintballers and see if they can get co2 in large tanks. also refilling these tanks very regularly could be a problem. you could also go in to a pub early on when its quit and have a chat the home brew shops also have lots of strong yeasts in case you go down that road. |

Thanks Tonto, will give some of these a shout.
"the home brew shops also have lots of strong yeasts in case you go down that road." You see prehaps I am just a cynic/sceptic but I need someone to validate the use of yeast/sugar/water to produce CO2 and efficiently/effective enough to work as well as it should do. Has anyone any experience with the afforementioned concoction? I won't doubt the theory behind it for a second, but the proof is in the pudding as they say. The space in which the CO2 would be used is quite a small confined space, so a home made setup could possibly do the trick, but the idea of using a certified cylinder of pure CO2 sounds more reassuring. I have been away from this site for over a year now, but I expected there to be a lot more active growers posting on these forums. Is there another big weed forum online that I am unaware of? When I think of the activity OverGrow had with Irish users it doesnt seem to make sense. Oh well.. Any other info on the above topic would be greatly appreciated. |

how big a setup? the yeast thing is more micro grow. tanked co2 from my reading always makes a grow room better. there are venting issues though and from reading others threads the co2 time release device that goes on top and regulates the release is one of those bits of equipment that you should really spend your money on.
just a side thought but maybe throwing a bucket here and there in a grow room with some sort of yeast mix might do some good. |

No 1 - Co2 is dangerous but only when used incorrectly , it can be toxic when used in abundance you will need a regulator and then you will need a Co2 control system that will control your grow-room Co2 levels so its a big investment to get started .. No 2 - Boc Gas is a supplier who in turn supply shops around Ireland like welding shops etc , go to there website were they will direct you to your nearest supplier which wont be far from you.. No 3 - You rent the bottle , get it filled , etc and yes it will cost you money if your gonna go for it , you can find these things out for yourself..There only small issues.. No 4 - That DIY thing of yeast etc gives off Co2 from what I hear , I have no experience but it will require new mixture , you never know what your getting from it , and its only for small closet grows Last edited by ResinKing; 11-26-2009 at 02:14 PM.. Thanks all for your input. It is a small grow (less than 1M sq., 400W HPS/MH, 5" extraction) so I reckon I will mess around with yeast/sugar/water and see if I like the feel (or more importantly if the ladies like it).
Checking out BOC Gas also, thanks RK. |
