Free Tibet

Hey there, folks.

Running a single Free Tibet (amongst other things) in my cab, so I thought I'd share, as this isn't a strain I see mentioned all that much on the site.

So.... Technical details first.

Veg Cab: Is one of those carry baskets that you take your cat to the vet in. 4 x 20W Warm White CFLs.

I'll say right now that I haven't been happy with how this cab has been performing. I'm trying to move to perpetual, but I have been beset with seed germination problems, and this cab hasn't helped.

Anyway...enough whinging.

Flower cab: Wooden, matt white paint finish 18" x 18" x 28" tall. A 200W Red CFL.

Medium: 1.4L pots using 75% J. Arthur Bowyer's Multi-purpose compost, 25% Perlite and a dash of Westland Fish Blood and Bone (4-7-4). No transplanting. One pot from germination to chop.

Germination took a long time (5 days or so), and the seed was put straight into the soil as soon as I saw the start of a tail.

I don't have any pix of the seedling stage, but it was a freaky affair - 3 cotyledons initially, with a 4th starting up on a little branch. Reminded me of freaky strains like UBC Chemo. 19 days before the first 3-bladed leaflet, which is what I call the start of veg. That was Oct 25th, and I put it straight into the flower cab - Obviously I could have left it in veg for longer, but it didn't seem happy, so....

Pix!

First: About 8 days ago:

Gave it the first feed - 1/4 strength FITO Citrus Feed (5-7-7 with added Micronutrients). I run a very ghetto setup, so no hi-tech, hi-price nutrients for me. She darkened considerably, and no burning, so I think I got that just right.

Today: It's a girl! Which is why I didn't post before now. Would have been a very short thread.

I'm not much good with a camera, but hopefully my skills will improve as time goes by.

She hasn't really stretched much at all - I though despite her weird structure, she would be going upwards a bit more, but no. Maybe she will start now she has decided to lift her skirt, as it were.

She is the stinkiest thing I have ever had in the cab! Soma was right on the nose when he calls this strain pungent. Sort of musky/skunky. I can't describe smells very well.

I'll try and keep this updated fairly regularly....Any comments, questions etc are very welcome.

More pix = more hits?

Maybe these are better, taken 5 mins ago, now the light is back on.

Depending on your viewpoint, this is either day 2 (since appearance of first white hair) or day 29 (since switching to 12/12).

Happy toking one and all.

Well I must say that your plant looks very happy. I've been holding a pack of Free Tibet for about 2 years now. So I'm along for the ride here. So you say that you are in the 12/12 phase now?

Welcome, Geronimo! Have a cookie

Yes.....I put her into the flower cab as soon as I got a 3-Bladed leaf. My veg cab is new - I'm trying to move over to a perpetual arrangement - but I'm not happy with it, and I wasn't convinced that the plant was either.

So she has been under 12/12 for 29 days now. In reality, any given day is between 14/10 and 10/14, depending on when I wake up, and when I can get to the cab.

Maybe a couple of pics of the cabs will help?

Firstly, the Veg cab - Note how I professionally managed to get my knee in the picture.

And the flower cab - I physically have to take the light out of the cab when lights off time comes, as I found unscrewing and rescrewing in the lampholder every time will destroy it in about 3 months. I have a 6" fan I clip on for ventilation when the cab gets crowded.

Added: When "night-time" comes for the plants, I take out the light, and slide the cab up against the dresser. "Day-time" : That black plastic sheet you can see on the right is matt white on one side and goes behind the light, to reflect more light back into the cab.

It all looks extremely ghetto, and it is - but it works very well, believe me. Depending on strain, I can usually pull 3/8 or a 1/2 oz per plant after 5 days of veg with no topping, training or any of that jazz (under the 200W - these figures will vary with my new veg setup).

I'm gonna hold my arm for a day or two, partly to see how she does on her own, and partly because I'm going to monkey about with her light times, so she'll get a long dark period.

The dilemma:

She is thirsty - I guess there is a lot of plant volume there. The pot is light, while the soil is still damp from yesterday's watering.

Is she telling me she needs a repot? Is that OK this stage of flower?

Previously in this cab, it's all been 1.4Litre all the way.

I could transplant into something about twice as big....A cut-off milk container. Ghetto here, remember.

Am I reading this right?

Am I better off transplanting like, NOW, or keeping on with the small pot?

I left her in the small pot.

Rummaging through my supplies, I only had 2.2L milk containers, which cut down to a lot less. I was thinking of the 6 pint ones, which I've recycled.

I was trawling various threads about repotting in flower, and it's one of those topics where half the people say Yes, and half say No.

And so many threads are like

OP: Asks question
Various people take time to reply, suggest course of action
OP: Never heard from again

So you don't know what they decided to do, or how it turned out.

Anyway - she has now entered a long night (18 hours or so).

A couple of days ago, I put another Free Tibet seed in the paper towels. It cracked, but a white tail seemed reluctant to emerge. Slooowly, like the first seed.

I put the seed in a pot in the veg cab. The soil mix is a bit different - slightly more perlite, and without any Blood Fish And Bone.

If it comes up....that would be nice.

This girl has very thick stems.

Two main colas seem to be forming, with another two secondary colas in a diamond formation.

The right-hand cola - closeup

May you all have a truly wonderful day.
