2,500 watts used in rented house too much?
hello all i was brainstorming and was thinking about renting a house and place two 1,000 watt HID lights , a couple hundred watts of fluro , and 2 exhaust fans. but i was wondering if 2,500(approx amount proposing to use) watts is too much because im not trying to get caught and lose all my stuff , but it is a house....... and landlords cant come inside my house unless they have legit reason and id keep it ultra secret , but anyways i need some feedback from all u pro's out there that are already doing somthing similar to what i wanna do , i gotta keep my bases covered and i trust u guys because all the info uve given me so far has always been right , thanks guys =)

Your wattage will actually be based on the current draw of your Ballasts. You'll be fine on modern house wiring, but a rented house with a landlord nearby.......
Any reason he can think of will allow him access to his property with reasonable notice to you. Tearing down a room in 24 hrs. may be tough. Be very carefull |

I wouldn't worry too much about that much power. Just make sure you build your setup so that you can tear it down in 24 hours if need be. I used to have a 1000w DWC grow in an apartment and had to tear it down quick twice with no evidence left behind. It wasn't all that hard. Be a good Boy Scout and be prepared. Good luck.

I've had to quickly tear down a setup before too! Me and this guy did it in about 15 min. Lights dropped from the ceiling and all! You'd be surprised how fast you can do it when you've got to.

yeah, as hippo said, best to get an electriction to look at that, you might not want to run it all on a single normal circuit, could blow a fuse. i heard ballests can draw x2 their normal power usage to start up.
but it shouldnt be any problem as far as arrousing suspicion at the power company or anything like that goes. |

Stagger your "turn on" times of your equip in the same room unless sure they are on different phase/leg. Different timer for 2 lights and/or fans etc otherwise. Start surge is high, this will balance it and avoid premature circuit brkr/fuse failure. currnet draw on 1000 watt ballast is abt 9 amps @120 V. Startup is higher. Most house wiring has only 15 Amp cb for rooms. You can replace the breaker with a 20 ONLY if the wires to the room are rated for it. Usually written on the wiring insulation, I just can't remember the gage that is acceptable for 20 Amp.
By the way, at the above figures your ballast is using about 980 watts. 980x 12hrs. = 11,760 watts or 11.7kw/day x 30 = 353KW x 10cents per = $35.30 / month to run the light. Last edited by closetking; 03-26-2004 at 12:25 PM.. |
