The lonely reflector, featuring KC 33

This project started out with some KC 33 clones that were supposed to go outdoors guerrilla style, but I didn't really feel like the road trip and long distance maintenence. So I remembered I had an old 175 watt mh lamp in the garage and an unused 35 gallon garbage can and a few other things laying around that weren't being used.

The lonely reflector

It must feel devastating knowing that your whole purpose has become null and void.

The clones were made with rapid rooter mat cubes, I don't recommend the mat form of rapid rooter because the cubes are too hard to separate. Once the roots were showing on the bottom of the cube they went into a 70/30 mix of coco/verm where they vegged until about 16" (40cm) tall. There are 3 different phenos.

For airflow through the garbage can, I used a bathroom centrifugal vent fan at 80 cfm sitting on top of a 4.5" (11cm) hole in the lid with 4 1.5" (3.5cm) holes with pvc elbows stuffed in them for the air intake. (I know its not the 2:1 intake exhaust ratio recomendation but it works, temps are 5 above ambient)

I'm using a hempy style all perlite bed. I cut the top off of a 2 gallon pail to make it 6" (15cm) tall, drilled 2 opposing 1/2" (1.25cm) holes in the side of the pail about 1.5" (3.75cm) up from the bottom, duct taped window screen to the outside of the holes and siliconed the bucket to the bottom center of the garbage can. Placed 10 clones in the bottom of the garbage can close to the wall and surrounded the roots with perlite. Now when watering, the overflow goes directly into the 2 gallon pail where it evaporates or can be removed.

I made a tube of chicken wire 11" (28cm) in diameter that sets on top of the perlite just around the 2 gallon pail. I might need to go 13" but I'll see how this plays out.

I'm going to veg a while longer, maybe 2 weeks, to let them get situated in their new home then let them flower.

I'd rather have a ceramic metal halide in there, but I don't want to spend the money now. It would be about $65 for an ingnitor and bulb, maybe next round.

I gave the girls a trim a few days ago and the buds are starting to form nicely now.

I trimmed a few leaves that were burnt growing close to the bulb, there weren't that many. The buds are thickening up nicely now, here are a few pics. Its interesting to note the leaves above the bulb are folding in half lengthwise to catch the light. They look sickly, but the rest of the plant looks great, so no worries here.

sam, as i was pondering converting a 78" cabinet into a V scrog, i came across your thread.

Must say, from a fellow "thinker", youve done a nice job buddy. You may effectively yield close to what my 400w tent would yield with a setup that is so undeniably simple yet perfect.

kudos, in for results.

Sam, looks really nice. Have you run the KC33 before? It is a nice, up, smoke and a pretty decent yielder.

Have had it hermie before due to heat issues, but sounds like you got the temp thing licked.

Ran some Leda Uno a little earlier this fall and she hermied on me too, had the exhaust hose from my come loose and heat the whole room with my other tents for a few days while I was gone. She was the only one to hermie, also had MNS Shit, BKxGK, Warlock, Grape Krush, Belladonna and some Nirvana AK-48 going at the same time with no problems from the heat (other than getting hit with some of the Leda pollen).

Even heavily seeded, the Leda Uno is still quite tasty after a month of so cure. (genetics of Leda Uno and KC33 are quite similar)

Keep up the good work, will keep my eye on this one.
