It’s time to make history.

Today the California Assembly is holding the most prominent discussion our nation has ever had about making marijuana legal.

The Assembly’s unprecedented hearing on marijuana legalization is a pivotal moment in the movement to end decades of wasteful, punitive marijuana laws. We can’t let it pass us by. Urge your legislator to cosponsor Assemblymember Tom Ammiano’s bill to regulate marijuana for adult use like alcohol.

It’s time. It’s time for the state to stop wasting your tax dollars by arresting people who use marijuana responsibly. It’s time to stop the violence on the U.S.-Mexico border by getting marijuana out of the black market. And it’s time to stop disproportionately punishing people of color.

DPA and our allies will testify at today’s hearing, but state lawmakers also need to hear from you. Let’s seize this opportunity to make sure our lawmakers know that now is the time to end marijuana prohibition.

Elected officials are more willing than ever to consider our point of view. The economy is hemorrhaging and prohibition-related violence is out of control. The mainstream media and the public are focusing on our nation's irrational marijuana policies as never before, and lawmakers are taking notice.

There has never been a better moment to end marijuana prohibition than right now.
