It is weird though, the other half of the plants don't seem affected by the gnats at all.

Now I just need to pick up a bug bomb at the hydro store.
good luck!

I seen a jar of the chunks and bits the other day somewhere, wish I had picked it up....

I mixed some crushed dunks right in my lc mix this last time. I posted before but here is the update.

just over 3 months, (Ithink) with NO FUCKING FUNGAS GNATS.

It works for me to mix about a tablespoon into every square foot of dirt... mix it right in when your amending your soil....

It probably wont work for everyone, as nothing ever does... but it works for me and will work for some of you

Again, thank you LOLA for this thread. It has elimanated the horrid little bastards from my life.. and it it hasnt, I know where the rest of my dunks are....

My gnats finally disappeared! Well about 99% did.
It took over five weeks and for a minute there their numbers seemed to be increasing.
Then over just about 10 days they went from rapidly reproducing to almost nonexistent.
I still lost a bunch of weight do to my plants being pissed off, and I got a some of those gnats in my buds, but I believe this was the worst gnat problem I have ever seen, and these dunks likely saved a good portion of my needed medicine. WITHOUT USING CHEMICALS!
Thanks Lola!

Get rid of fungus gnats switching to media-free

I had the ultimate go round with those pests years ago and in this climate zone they were the clear winners. Now using media-free system has eliminated their habitat and disrupted any potential growth cycle. A few can still survive in a media-free root zone but cause little harm when they cannot reproduce to the numbers necessary to cause stress. Their life cycle depends on the soil surrounding the plants where the larvae drop, burrow in and decimate the roots cilia before emerging as gnats. I believe the life cycle is about 48hours. In a submerged water system the roots are safely underwater. See my thread for an example of an efficient media-free system. Go green and dump the media. Saves money, disposal issues, and relieves the carbon footprint of all transported prepackaged medias. Water is just too easy.

It is nice you can go hydro, but lots of people like me cannot, or just prefer soil. Mosquito dunks were made for water! (just put in an old nylon stocking first to avoid clogging )

and always remember... Die Fungus Gnats! Die!

Dunks in the reservoir of my Flood tables combined with sticky traps have worked wonders on my gnat population.

Placing the Dunk in some sort of net bag/nylon stocking in not something to skip either. I just threw the dunk in the reservoir and proceeded to have bits of the dunk coating anything I put into the rez until annoyed enough to change out the solution.

thanks to all for this thread, especially LolaGirl.

sorry dude, but they reproduce in water just like mosquitos.
they lay larva in the water of ebb and flow and buckets, even a few drops just on the floor.....
