Chronic Crosses with more smell
Matt,
I have read many of your posts and consider you very knowledgeable especially concerning Chronic plants. A few questions if you have time; Have you ever crossed Chronic with C99? What do you think? What cross would still be potent and have a stong smell at harvest? My problem is I maintain some SS Chronic mother plants for a partner. I realize SS / Simon recommend a good long cure but in our case the product is sold as soon as it is trimmed and dried. Currently, (in our area), stuff that is purple or smells strong sells better. I'm not into the purple craze but I would like to put more smell in my Chronic without loosing the great yield. Last edited by gomer; 10-05-2009 at 10:51 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Everyone says C99 is low odor too. I'd like to know what MM smells in the Chronic F2 generation.

The F2's are a mix of sweet floral fruit salad with some with slight woody/hazy slightly skunky undertones,i've not found any real stinkers in the F2's but lemon stinky(sensi star x chronic) has got some real dank rancid smelling plants which is from the sensi star side of the cross.
I've not grown C99 before but from what i've read/heard the oder is low and isn't your typical weed smell so i'd expect a c99 x chronic to be fairly low oder to,but you never quite know what you'll get until you grow out the offspring.

Must have been a sweet skunk Simon used. I know he put some AK-47 in there so a rancid pheno is bound to pop up somewhere.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond to my oddly worded question. I meant it as two questions but could not edit the post properly. I was wondering if the C99 would make a good cross with quicker flowering time. As for the smell part I may look into the Sensi Star cross. Thanks Matt.

Chronic takes 50-60 days and C99 can take from 50-70 days from what i've seen/read so the flowering times would be about the same unless you find a very early phenotype, and there's only 1 way to find out and thats to make the cross and grow out as many offspring as possible.

I wanna cross OG Kush x Chronic.
The OG I had really tended to Cola up and I think it would be GREAT to get the bonus yield out of the Chronic. In my opinion, the STRONG pheno types of Chronic smell insane are super resinous. Some of the males I have come across are even more insane! To cross it with an OG would be awesome but im unsure how it would work as the OG loves to be fimmed/topped and chronic is TOP cola dominant. Hmm.. im not sure.

You can top chronic to produce multi-colas with great success, they can yield alot more if given alittle more veg time and enough space for the roots. If you do use chronic males pick the plants which branch out the most and have other desirable traits.

Thanks again Matt for sharing information.
I won't really be able to choose my best male for my first try at this. Only one plant turned out to be a boy. Probably should have used all 11 seeds, not just 6. I plan to put him in a seperate area with several different plants and see what I come up with. I am starting to discover it takes more room than I realized. A White Russian female will be in my first test since you had good luck with that. Does picking a male or female plant make any difference in passing on the most traits. I'm using my male Cronic because some of the other varieties are only female clones. I also don't have space to raise several different males. |
