600W Vertical feasible in this cab? Vert ideas?

So,

I'm working on my new grow. I purchased a wardrobe-type closet that has a decent interior space. It's about 5' tall.

I flipped it upside down, so now the upper metal rack can hold a res underneath, and support plants above it. the interior grow space is 4.25'(h) x 3.25'(w)x1.75'(l)

There is a decent amount of vertical space. The box is obviously rectangular.

I'll post up pictures of the box and what I was thinking about in a minute as well.

What I was going for was going to be a 600W HPS in the middle of the cabinet. Plants along the left, right, and back walls of the cabinet, and coming to the sides. Directly behind the door would be a simple reflector (removable) that would make sure light wouldn't be wasted at the access point to the grow. Also, this is because depth is limited in this cab.

My main concern is plant arrangement, I guess. I ordered 10 seeds. 6 Feminized, 4 unfeminized. That'll hopefully work out 8 females.

Going to use that large diameter plumbing PVC pipe i've seen used here before for stadium/vertical setups. Hydro, drip, with the res. under the metal rack at the bottom.

Picture:

The two sites on the right and left would be raised a bit. I'm not sure of this arrangement.

Problems:

Reservoir in this may be a bit small.
Plant arrangement
Need to figure out a way to ventilate the bottom/have an intake from the back. I could raise it, cut a hole in the bottom, but that would cut into my reservoir space.

Thanks!

Random pic from my last grow (still haven't updated it, grainy, sorry):

I want to do the same thing, I am concerned about light burn with a 600 hps in a 3x3 area, even with a cool tube. ahhh i dont know what to do!!!!!

word. vertical cool tubes seem like a pain in the ass. I might just hang a bare 400 watt CMH vertical since thats the only bulb that wont give me temp problems without aircooling. I am concerned about yield though.....fuck lol someone chime in and help us please

The CMH has gotten enough good reviews from people I respect that I'm giving them a shot. Going w/ a 400 cmh over a 600 hps 5' diameter. I do use a 5' cool tube. My reasoning is that this should produce a better all around light spectrum. I know what 2 6s will do, so we'll see.
All this doesn't have a damn thing to do w/ what you are asking but w/ the 3ft parameter you have, I'd go for it. W/o the tube, I think 600 will kill ya. Keep in mind that this is just an opinion --- I've got alot of them and alot are wrong!!

Looks like were on the same page haha... yea i dont wanna sacrifice yield at all and i havent really seen a good measure of comparison with what i can get with 600 vs 400.. I dont really wanna go bigger than 3x3... I was thinking of just going with a 600 dim able ballast with a fan on the floor blowing at the bulb.. and if it got too hot dim it down to 450

Edit: Guess well see how it goes.. just ordered a 3x3 hydrohut and a 600w dimable ballast.. still looking for a decent inline fan... i sleep in the room my tent will be in... While I'm medical so stealth isnt a huge issue, ive heard all about vortex's sounding like jet engines. Any suggestions?

Also looking for a good bulb for the ballast

true the dimmable ballast sounds good, I want a thread where someone does a vertical 400cmh so i get an idea of yield vs a digital 600 vertical... The space is tight for a 600 3x3, i mean my bubbledust are bigger than coke cans right now but they are getting bleached from too much light so idk.. wish they had a 600 w cmh.

any good inline fan will be fine just but a speed controller for it and get a 6 incher, itll be more quiet than the 4 inch on full blast. ellicient are supposed to be very quiet, but just insulate the fan (wrap in in something or put in a soundproof box) and add a muffler if its necessary. good luck

That box just doesn' t seem ideal for vertical because you can't get plants 360 degress around the bulb with that footprint.

I have a box similar in dimension to that and It is giving me just under a half pound per run with with a horizontal wing reflcted 250 cmh in the center of the lid with four 40w 2700k cfls 2 on either side of the cmh.

like this

CFL CFL

CMH

CFL CFL

It was pretty cool with the CMH alone, but adding the CFLs made my buds bigger and upped the calyx to leaf ratio.

I know it's not vertical, but that may be better for your box.
