Hydrostackers - outdoor hydroponic growing
J/w if anyone actually uses these? I actually work for a farm that uses these systems and I can tell you they're damn good for outdoor hydroponics. Especially with fruits and veggies. If anyone knows a thing about strawberry farming, these systems kick out a good 5lbs of strawberries per plant - which is pretty fucking impressive. And the sugar contents are 10-15% on a brix scale compared to 1-2% for soil farmers (if my boss told me right and this relies strictly on the fertilizer used). But, I'm wondering if anyones used them for cannabis. I don't even smoke anymore, really. But, if marijuana ever becomes legal I'd like to experiment with outdoor hydroponic growing. I'm thinking the stacker 2's would be more suited (which really aren't vertical growing at all). I'm just curious if anyone can share some experience stories with me if they have.
https://www.hydrostacker.com/ The only downside I can see with them would be the fact that the shade leaves would block out lower level plants and you couldn't fully maximize the systems use of all planters. However, on a 1 stacker with 3 stacks on them, you could put 6 plants, like with tomatoes. And we kick out a damn lot of tomatoes! |

Btw, I don't really smoke weed anymore (or grow it for that matter). But, one day we got into a dispute that these wouldn't be a good system for cannabis, even though they're probably the best damn system you'll get for veggies and most fruit.

Yea, I've seen those before. I don't see why they wouldn't be a viable option for cannabis. You would have to grow small plants, but there are lots of people doing that now. Can you recount the argument against cannabis growing in these systems? I'm curious to hear it

I've never seen the argument on them, but I'm weary to delve to deep into it because I know the guy who invented them and I don't want to draw any unnecessary attention to myself. I mean, it shouldn't be a worry for me because I don't do anything illegal (I went clean off drugs and have been since a nasty heroin and oxy addiction). But, if you work on a hydroponic farm with a very unique method of vertical growing, and you quit smoking pot, you've gotta wonder if anyone uses it for growing pot. I've never heard of anyone using these systems. I've heard of people using vertical growing, but no stackers of any sort. It's all usually shelved and indoor (not that you couldn't use these indoors, but frankly I think they're more suited for outdoor & greenhouse).
If marijuana ever becomes legal, and only if it became legal, I would mass cultivate easily 6 oz per every 14in X 14 in space, which is pretty respectable imo for 6 plants and something that fruits in like 6-9 weeks. Assuming you get 1 oz per plant, that is. The only way you could do it is with either autoflowering of short season. But, if you live in a climate without snow, you could pull off 3-4 crops a year. I think you could easily grow more than an oz a plant, though. These things really kick out the volume and quality with veggies and fruits, no doubt. Figure one stacker is 360$ (for an automatic), after one oz you've paid off your damn system considering an oz can go for up to 360$ anywhere. For short season plants, I'm surprised no one is doing this. It just seems as if it'd be the most efficient. Maybe it's just me, but I get the impression the cannabis growing community keeps away from outdoor hydroponics. |

a bigger version with less pods, you could grow some dwarf autoflowers

I HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU I SAW A HOME BUILT GUPPY-PONIC EBB AND FLOW STRAWBERRY GARDEN AND HAVE BEEN DREAMING SINCE I SAW IT IT WAS HOME BREW REALLY SIMPLE IT WAS A 4'X4'X6' PLYWOOD BOX WITH POND LINER FILLED WITH GUPPIES WITH ONE SUBMERSIBLE PUMP CONNECTED TO A 5' TALL 6" DIAMETER PVC PIPE WITH AN OPEN + CONNECTION AT THE TOP
THEN 6" PVC FOR ABOUT 50' IN EACH DIRECTION WITH HOLES CUT FOR NET POTS EVERY 18" THE PVC IS ATTACHED TO A 2'X4"X2' PLANK WITH STEEL TAPE AND SCREWS WHICH IS ATTACHED TO A FENCE POST THE PVC SLIGHTLY SLOPES TILL THE END OF THE 50' THEN ELBOWS AND FOLLOWS ITSELF ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE POST TILL IT REACHES THE GUPPY POND AGAIN. THERE WERE AS MANY AS THREE SHELVES PER SIDE PER POND PER SHELF SOME PONDS WERE LARGER AD THESE AND SOME SUP LIGHTS AND SOME DARK OUT CLOTH AND GOOD IDEA IN THE DESERT WHERE

Well, the pods don't make a difference. Instead of using 4 pods for 4 plants, you put 2 on each level and do 3 levels per stack. I mean, the rootball of a dwarf plant isn't more than that of tomato plant. The roots eventually find place to grow anyways because under each base of the stacker base (planter base) is your medium, which ideally is verm/per.
