Not trippy, mildly toxic, gorgeous plant. Because it can turn into an absolutely giant showcase plant it's featured in a lot of conservatories I've visited over the years.

What exactly did you hear about it?
Can you narrow it down to an exact species of plant? "Elephant Ear" Is a general term for many plants.... Several related genera in the family Araceae of plants with large, thick leaves: * Alocasia is a genus of broad-leaved rhizomatous or bulbous perennials from the Family Araceae. There are about 70 species of Alocasia * Caladium = There are over 1000 named cultivars of Caladium bicolor from the original South American plant. * Colocasia is a genus of six to eight species of flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to tropical Polynesia and southeastern Asia * Xanthosoma is a genus of about 50 species of tropical and sub-tropical arums in the flowering plant family, Araceae, all native to tropical America. All these can be referred to as "Elephant Ears". "Alocasia is a genus of broad-leaved rhizomatous or bulbous perennials from the Family Araceae. There are about 70 species of Alocasia occurring in Asia, Oceania and South America. The large cordate or sagittate leaves grow to a length of 20 to 90 cm on long petioles. Their beautiful araceous flowers grow at the end of a short stalk, but are not conspicuous; often hidden behind the leaf petioles. The stem (a corm) is edible, but contains raphid crystals of oxalic acid that can numb and swell the tongue and pharynx. The corms require prolonged boiling before serving or processing as a food. You may experience severe headaches, diffilculty breathing and you also may start to halucinate. Although not serious you may feel some advent of pain." Sounds like a tough way to have some fun, I would stick to the more well known ones like the LSA vines, mescaline cacti, DMT containing plants like Acacia & the good old fungi.

I have dad some growing in my yard for 6-8 years and this year they flowered for the first time. Fortunately, I saved the seeds to grow out more in the future. Very cool looking plant. I had no idea there was a trippy side to the thing! I'd rather stick to fungi for a trip!

there are some red ones, and i can see how the untrained eye might mistake them for coleus (similar colors) which has been reported to have psychedelic qualities.
