Does Flushing In soil Really Work?
Ok, I can see a pre harvest flush in hydro working, as you can change out the reservoir and just give it straight water, but in soil, especially if you are using a preferted soil, won't the nutes/ferts still be in the soil no matter how much you flush? I mean they will still be there for the roots to draw up even after flushing, so what good would it do? I can see it diluting the availability, but not entirely removing it.
Any thoughts anyone? |

I beleive that if you have ferts in your soil (ie blood, bone meal) then a full flush is not possible. However, even when I used additives in soil I also watered with an organic liquid nute mixed in with my water, the last two weeks I would stop using it. I would experience harsher pot still though, which is why I switched to just peat moss and perlite. Since then my pot has been tastier and stinkier after harvest than before

Yes, the nutes are still in there. Same with a good organic soil. I don't bother flushing. I prefer to go with pure RO water the last 3 weeks. Works just fine.

While there may be some nutes left in the soil, but flushing can still make a huge difference.
Want proof??? Take a TDS tester to your runoff. Your first gal or 2 of runoff will have a much higher ppm rating than both the input water and your 3 and fourth gallon. If you have prepped your soil correctly, you plants will have used up all the nutes in the soil roughly 2 weeks to 10 days prior to harvest. The flavor difference in flushed vs. unflushed soil is quite obvious to me, even when using all organics. Maybe if your a light ferter you may not notice. -KRS Juan-

thank you all very much for your opinions. I guess in order to find out for myself for sure I'll have to do a side by side comparison and flush some and not some others.Guess in order to make it really fair they'd have to be of the same strain.

I do a similar thing - (watering with pure water no nutes but only for the last two weeks) - and like Elvis says - works just fine

i do a 1-2 week flush and it works just fine just like growing out doors there is always gonna be something left in the soil but that add to the flavour imo, never the less u are gonna seriously reduce any build up of salts that may have been there and reduce wot ever may be left in the soil...at the beginning of my flush i run a decent amount of water thru the pots as i wud if i had salt build up..i find this helps get anything out that may be hanging around ready for a nice flush...peace

I am finding I need to feed less & less
I have smoked both (flushed - un-flushed) & I have to tell U - the un-flushed (a mentor here) was great & I could tell no dif. - in fact - one sample - tasted as good as any pot I have ever had.For my own 'piece of mind' - I do run 1/2 reg amount of pH agj water the last 2 weeks & water starve them the last few days |

I am not disagreeing on flushing - but I have smoked a BIG pile in my life (I smoke as much or more than ANY-one i have ever met) IMHO I have - been smoking for 32 years now & I stll say the avg. smoker will not tell a diff in the HIGH & only a few will tell the taste dif. I promis; & un-named 'by me' Mentor here does not fulsh & his pot is among the finest I have EVER tried - in fact; 1 of them is a LEGIT cup entry & I would put it up against anyone's. I flush for piece of mind ps. Today is chop day for 2 SDbx1 beauts(where the heck is the 'Lemon Pledge' taste/smell comming from?(earlier harvest) |
