Double Dutch - A Very slow vegging plant
I've got two femmed Double Dutch going right now that are growing extremely slowly. They've been vegging under a T5 for a couple weeks and are only on their 3rd/4th nodes. They are in cups of b'cuzz coco, and they appear healthy.
I've been using maxicrop seaweed and Oregonism XL myco's along with CNS 17, and they are still just sputtering along, barely growing. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this with this strain, and if anyone knows what I can do to jump start their growth.

I've found the exact opposite with my DD. Vigorous through out veg, and suffice to say, packs on huge weight during flowering. Never run femms tho'.

Thanks for your reply, Hold Your Fire. It may be the fems, then, because I treat these seedlings like all my others, and the others do just fine. And this is the second time I've popped DD fem seeds.

MM i can confirm this pattern
if HYF has opposite experience it seems theres quite some variation on this point in the phenoes ive been granted a selected dd cut from a fellow danish grower and breeder he told me from start its a damn slow grower when i was waiting for his mothers to get enough size for cuts ive been growing them in my greenhouse for some time and a few of the clones are only 30 cm or so and not ready to give mothers yet ( i want more height before topping a mother) some are 50 cm max and can give a few clones other clones started at same time or later ive had to top one or several times in order for them not to hit the roof. when this is said i should add that im running 4 in flower at 3 week now not very much stretch and nice bud and resin production already a part from the very slow growth im really impressed and satisfied so far with double dutch |

I vegged seedlings for 7-8 weeks, and they were 30-36 inches tall when I flipped the lights, no topping. I was gunning for all plants to be at least 30 inches tall at the flip. So I'm not sure exactly how many days it was.
By way of comparison, I put outside a Mandala #1 plant, (from seed), that was vegging under the same 400 watt MH for 8 weeks and it was barely 24 inches tall. The Mendicino Madness I am growing, were not even that tall, after the same amount of veg time. |

That pack of MM may have had issues though.

Gunnarguchi - Thanks for chiming in. I'm glad my slow growing DD might be at least partially genetic. I repotted mine into larger pots and hit em with more oregonism and maxicrop, and they've started growing faster, though not taking off. I wonder how much faster they'd grow in DWC, as that's supposed to make plants take off. Not that I'd transfer from coco drip to DWC-- I love the lack of res maintenance in coco drip too much.
Hold Your Fire - Thanks for the comparison! I've heard that MM is nice smoke.

my double dutch vegged under 400w mh, from a pack of regular seeds, grew very fast. it got kinda large rather fast and forced me to take cuttings earlier than i had planned on. the cuttings have rooted fine. the female is now in the flower room and is not stretching much at all. but what a bush! she really is taking up a lot of space. so, the smoke will have to be super good in order for her to stay. or she'll have to be super good and produce very well in order to stay. i could easily grow 2 shiva type plants in the space she's taking.
on another note, this double dutch gal has quite an odor compared to most modern indoor strains. not bad now but increasing by the day. and she's only 14 days into 12/12! |

There is a "slow vegging" pheno but this is just a matter of structure and is no health issue.
This pheno is simply more short and bushy with very short internodes, indeed not the most productive mother plant, but if you give it some time without much pruning or bending it will improve. It can yield just as good as any other as long as it doesn't get "overgrown" by taller/quicker plants. Any assumption that the female version is weaker is unfounded, both versions are F1 hybrids so in theory there is no reason to assume vigour is compromised within the female lines. I've seen no significant difference in practice either. Gerrit |
