i guess im the only akita lover here
sadly, the brown male Matagi was put down recently. he was around 15 years old. i got him when he was 8 weeks, we were apart for maybe 16 days total in his whole life. i haven't cried like that in forever. he was great and will be missed...
but now we have a new akita pup!!! he is a freakin beautiful, fun, and smart boy. here is Okozumi at 10 weeks and 30lbs... can't wait to take him camping... no one else here has akitas??? too bad, you're missing out!!! cm |

Sorry to hear of your loss, that's the hard part about owning pets.
Pup looks beautiful! My buddy had one, used to tell everyone how ferocious it was, and how it would kill anyone who tried to come into his house when he wasn't home, lol, kiss them to death maybe, super nice, sweet dog, the guy was kinda of jerk, but his dog was cool. |

Im sorry for your loss, its hard when you have pets that are also life companions to one and other, and one goes to the bridge, usually the other is not far behind unfortunetely . I love Akitas but unfortunately I will never own one, we are a multi pet house hold and Akitas do much better with one or no other pets.
At least you know they will be playing together forever over on the rainbow bridge...RIP ETA: the new pups are absolutely adorable! |

hey cannagirl- ur avatar reminds me of a great grower/person named stinkyattic. she is an enourmously talented grower/person, and funny too... she was on here for a while, but mostly at another forum, i miss her...
i've been fortunate enough to have lived with akitas most of my 36 years, i understand what ur saying about them. although i do think it is in how you raise them. for example, matagi & gyoza, and okozumi & aki, live fine with other pets. we have 3 house rabbits that live in a pen on the floor of our living room. the only time the dogs even pay attention to the rabbits is when they are trying to steal the bunnies' carrots!! my dogs love carrots. a few years ago, matagi & gyoza woke me in the middle of the night all fired up. i got up to check out what was going on. as i walked out of my room, i saw marshmallow (the white bunny) run behind the door. i thought, oh shit, could be dead bunnies around. we had left the rabbit pen door open, and rabbits were running all over the house!!! they weren't hiding either. i could see on a dog bed where one was laying down, from the sheded rabbit fur on it. the dogs just woke me to tell me them crazy big eared furry things were running around. i've always raised and taught my dogs that the other pets are part of this family too, and to protect them just like us. so i think its in their upbringing. but, don't be a stranger or a stray cat and come in the yard or house, cuz then you'll get it. btw- we have an adopted stray cat that has earned his way into the house. it took a few months but, he showed the dogs he's cool... thanks for your kind comments on my dogs, i still miss the dogs ihad when i was a pup myself... at least they're all having fun together waiting for us to complete the pack... sorry for the ramble, just wanted to let people know, no matter what breed, they are what you make of them... cm |

Cravin- I understand what you are saying about its all in how you raise them. I have two Dobies, we fixed the female and never bothered to fix the male. Well you know with all the stigma of dobies, neither of mine are dog or people aggressive and happy as can be just being goof balls
