Angel trumpets

Does anyone here like to grow Angel trumpets? I love them and have a bunch...I was jsut reading today that ancient Indians used to dry the leaves out and smoke them, or just eat them raw and they would go off on a trip. The article states that teh leaves are very posinous....anyone here have any info on them....I have been growing them for over 5 years and this is the 1st I have heard of that.....my dog had ate the dead leaves and he seems to be fine.

yeah, i was wondering why when I googled Angel Trumpet, it came up jimson weed.....Beautiful plant. I cant imagine thinking of it in a bad way and killing it. Sounds like alot of people spray for it so it wont grow wild.

please, please, please do not ingest datura of any kind without more thorough research!
erowid.org is a great resource for any chemical experience, man made or otherwise, and that is where i would start.

the alkaloid levels in different daturas vary widely, so it is difficult to know how much is safe to ingest. also, seeds have different alkaloid content than leaves or flowers.
my personal experience is with datura brugmansia (charles grimaldi), the more tree-like upright variety, and while I did enjoy myself I'm not rushing back to try it again. there are more reports of unpleasant effects than there are of pleasant ones. be informed and if you decide to take it, start with a small dose and work your way up.
good luck!

I have grown a number of different Brugmansia crosses and grew a few B. sanguinia(?) from seed. Real pain in the ass. However the damn things are weeds and once established they are very difficult to get rid of. Absolutely love them all, Datura and Brugmansia.

i didn't read about the dangers and ate it. quite trippy but the "hangover" isn't worth it. also you can OD with it pretty easily. definitly not a plant to eat, more of a poison than psychedelic experience. trip was something like this: we went into our towns botanic garden and stole some flowers, i had drunk like 5 beers before and after eating the first flower i vomited, then i ate the other flower and the trip begun. basically i saw illusions and hallucinations. the morning is so fucking weird... you just cant see basically. you need galsses to see properly and i had to focus my eyes really hard to see anything on my pc. this made my eyes hurt. and in my stomach... not from the beers but i felt like there was a washing machine inside me ALL DAY. then my head hurt aswell. two days after i ate was still a little bad feeling inside. THIS PLANT IS PURE POISON, NOT MEANT FOR EATING!

EDIT: nice plant for you're garden though
