yeah, they clone easy, but your best bet is to break off something low and get some root with it.

i've had luck just sticking it in moist dirt in a shaded area.

Incarnata, isn't that the purple one? We have 5-6 different passiflora, they all clone easily. One of them, I think it's the incarnata, keeps popping out shoots many feet from the original vine. You can just dig them up and pot 'em.

but be careful, because they also contain some poisonous stuff (i think) that certain folks may be a little more sensitive too than others. that said, they do sell the crushed flowers in capsules at health places, so i doubt it is extremely dangerous.

also, they contain harmalas (maoi's), and people who take maoi's or other prescrips that interfere with maoi's shouldnt take these.

I've smoked the leaves of passion flower and the affect was a mild buzz. About the same affect as catnip. The flower may be more potent.

Cuttings are the way to go because passion flower seed takes a long time to germinate, sometimes up to 8 weeks.

Even without the flowers this is a nice ornamental plant. Its a vine that grows fast in the shade and is easy to train.

I planted a valerian this spring and its doing well but I haven't harvested any roots yet. It likes moist, rich soil.

From what I've read I'd second MG's comment. Moderate doses of the valerian root can be taken frequently with no ill side affects.
