Avocado Tree

My parents have an avocado tree at their place, I basically handle their garden plants but always have a problem with the avocado tree. year after year it only produces small avocados.

Is there a specific nutrient regimen or something someone here uses? Tips?

we've got an avocado we're trying to germinate. Has anyone started from seed?

I have started about 10 from seed in the last couple years, they always get about 2 feet tall them lose all their leaves and die.

makes me sad every time it happens too. Bugs seem to really dig them, and they are mad sensitive to any kind of chemical pesticides.

I have all but given up on them, but really I won't stop trying till I get one going healthy. Frustrating little suckers.

I've started a few from seed over the last few years, but stopped trying after I learned an important fact:

Most commercial varieties of Avocado are grown from clone. If you start a seed from an avocado you've eaten, the resulting plant is unlikely to bear fruit that resembles the fruit you found it in. A low yielding avocado tree could simply be because it was started from a regular seed, rather than a clone-only avocado strain such as Hass (the most common), Pinkerton, Zutano, and many others.

As far as feeding is concerned, avocado trees like large areas of well aerated soil. One thing to consider, "water with high salinity can cause a reduced yield". So if you have salty water you may want to find a way of cleaning it up.

Best of luck to you all in your non-mj growing interests!

What he said about commercial fruit and vegetables is true. Almost all of them are now grown from clone and the seeds are use less. This is the same for tomatoes, bananas, grapes, cherries, and many more.

Big Business is now Big Farming.
All your seeds belong to Monsanto.
Is it not foolish to breed a plant that can't reproduce?
