limited rootspace in coco

hey guys, since coco is a hydroponic medium persay, are plants affected rootbound wise like soil? i know the smaller the container the more watering etc... but would it stunt the plants just like a small container of soil would?

Hey budly, I'm sure if left long enough in a small pot it would affect yeild, my last grow i threw some plants into 4litre pots and they were much smaller than their sisters and the roots had filled the whole pot from top to bottom and the sisters in the 12l pots didn't fill the pots but the yeild was almost double, i am going to flower in 8 or 10l pots or bags from now on should be enough room for my 6 week veg and flower
peace bro

I would say this thread would be better suited in the coco grow area.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/forumdisplay.php?f=65577

But I am trying a few AF's now in coco using a smaller size pot trying to get a feeding schedule worked out.

But when this grow is over I am doing a Blue Streak grow in 1 and 2 gallon pots of each coco and soil ( FoxFarm ) on a 24/7 light schedule.

I think if you look into it, yul see that coco can support way bigger plants than soil can in a small pot, with no ill affects of being rootbound. I'd like to see a logical reason as to why that is though?

In my experience, if your growing autos you will definitely want all the root space you can get. In fact, the only autos I've had to get any size were in an aeroponic system I built and they have unlimited rootspace. Whenever I try autos in soil or soilless I get stunted little runts

I grow masterlow in coco and use 1 gallon pots with decent results. As B.C. said, coco seems to have some qualities that resist the effects of being root bound.

I don't think its necessary to use coco specific nutes either. I have got good results with compost tea. I also got a good crop over the winter using dollar store nutes when I ran out of compost. However, I do see the appeal in coco specific nutes. Once one is on the path of hopeless obsession, you might as well go all the way!

But, yeah, I have gotten some righteous masterlows in 1 gallon of coco.

Yeah a gallon or two of coco can support some really big plants compared to compost. It's almost as if the pots are just roots after a while. Amazing stuff, i'll never go back.

Added drippers recently, works excellent with limited rootspace coco applications

Really small I think will stunt them abit, but it's more a case of adding water at the perfect amount like you mention, depends really on the size of the pots and how big you need the plants I suppose. I've got some huge ones in 3 gallon pots.
