grafting

my cuz has an apple tree that grows 5 different kinds of apples .the branches each have a tag of what kid of apple that branch will grow .
pretty crazy i think.i will snap a few pics of it in the next couple days.im pretty sure grafting would be the only way to do that but im no horticulturist or botanist i just grow a weed here & there

yup, it's done by grafting various strains onto a dwarf apple root stock. I have one at home and love it.

Chances are ... Every Apple You Have Ever Eaten was grown on a branch not originally part of the tree it is on unless you are a Very Old Ukrainian. Apples don't breed true from seed and must be continued with grafts ... John Chapman tossed seeds for Cider ... known for producing mostly spitters (you bit one and spit it out).

We've got a variety on the family farm that grew from a pip and then was grafted onto dwarf russian stock. Apples ended up nearly blue in color with light "segments" in the flesh. You can get some really odd apples through creative grafting.
