So I posted this sometime last week in the Growroom Design & Set Up section of the forum and got 0 replies, but that was before we got blessed with this Vertical section!! I need some input on whether or not this will work...

After reading Northern Farmer's, Hoosier's and many other threads regarding vertical light set ups I want to jump on this Vertical wagon for my first real grow. I haven't figured out the dimensions yet, but I'm thinking about using something similar to Hoosier's or build my own depending on the suggestions I receive. The cab would be about 4ft wide, 2-3ft deep and 5-6ft tall. So my idea was to built to shelves on the side of the interior about a foot up from the ground, which will have two girls on each (weeks 4-8) to create somewhat of a "stadium grow". The bottom of the cab will have four girls (weeks 1-4). If the bulb is inches away from the bottom girls, is that going to be enough light for them? My plan is have an 8 plant perpetual grow so that I can harvest once a week. I was also thinking about building a shelf on the back side of the cabinet and stick in clones that will go straight 12/12 when rooted so I dont waste lumens/light. I will either veg under CFL's or Pl-l's for four weeks in a seperate cab.

The light I want to use for this set up is a vertical 400w CMH because I hear it's easier to cool than an HPS and plants do not stretch as much as an HPS. Both heat control and somewhat control of plant height will benefit this NOOB with this set up I think. Ill have a fan blowing at the light in an upward position and have my carbon filter right above the light to suck out the heat coming out of the lamp. No cool tube, but I do love Hoosier's design!! I hear so many good things about S&P inline fans so that's what I'll most likely use. Would the S&P TD150x be enough for this set up? I think it's rated around 230-250 CFM. If I remember correctly(cant find the thread)... 3.2X400w=1280/5 degrees=256 CFM. So it would work, right?

Also, some people say that you have to veg vertical and some say you dont. What's your thoughts about this?

yeah i saw it working a while back...just like 2 400hps kind of stacked vertically with with a circular wall around it, maybe a diameter of 4 feet? And just plant after plant all the way aorund and going up to about 5 feet. Think he packed like @ 100 plants in there. The info on how to do it might be under "vertical grow."

I think you are talking about a Coliseum type grow. That would be way out of my league since this will be my first real grow. I like the simplicity of stadium grow because it just a bare bulb(no cool tube), one ballast and a stand on the sides. People usually use a room and if they are doing cabs its either Vscrog or stacked lights in cool tubes. Is a "stadium cab" going to work?

I have a cab idea with stacked lights and it would be almost exactly like Hoosier's, but I would have a 250w CMH on the bottom to control height for weeks 1-3 or 1-4. Seperate the flower chamber with a metal fence type material and place weeks 4-8 or 5-8 on top of the rack. The upper flower chamber will have a 400w HPS. The reason I came up with a rack is because it wont restricted air flow in the cab like a wooden shelf would. Both lights will be in a vertical cool tube with a fan exhausting the hot air and have a separate fan to exhaust the cab. With this set up it'll require two lamps, two ballast, two fans, more money and more electricity. I know this set up will probably produce better buds, but I want to know if my first idea will work or not. I can always change it later.

Ill help with this. I have lots of ideas for vert cabs. Can you post a drawing or some shit Im a visual person. If not Ill re read and post later gota gracery shop for now
