Sky Mask Blues will become famous soon enough
So I received a super old tylenol bottle with seeds from So Cal dating to the mid 80's. I'm pretty sure they are full on indica beans. she doesnt fully know their lineage as the strains were gifted to her. They are the toughest fucking things I have ever encountered almost need pliers to crack em. SO i have them in a seed sprouter and have them doing their thing in filtered water. some have cracked without my assistance but none really are doing much.
I want these beans to sprout because I think that there is some gem waiting to be unearthed in this batch, and also revival of the retro nugs of another era.
So !1) soak em, 2) give them a minute dose of hormones, (drop of super thrive per quart?) 3) give a mild soak of B-1/ Indole-3-butyric acid. and then wait n see?
Im going to scuff the next set I try to germ to make sure they can pop without my hands introducing any possible nasty nasty.
so what does it mean when the hull pops of and instead of a white zygote there is a tan one? its meaty and despite the brown looks healthy. is it possibly viable still?
Many, Many thanks
I want to journal the retro beans progress.

Thanks! I've recently lost some decent genetics (including thunk) that i'd "saved for a better time." I'll give the soaks a try next time.

I have some nirvana AK 48, mandala hashberry, and sensi silver haze I'm trying to germ all seeds are from 2007 and giving me a hard time. I havent scuffed yet but tried the super thrive soak and now in paper towels. I'm using a heat mat to keep temps around 78-80. I'm on day 4 hopefully something soon. As far as hormones what would be some other options.

hey og.

keep us updated. Im in the same boat . like to hear your results with such a long soak

someone said something about a sealed jar with air line. theory was additional pressure would help force hydrate the seed. I have several old lines to germ. looking for the most productive way.

Thanks

Made a 5 min bubbler. Mason jar with cap pocked air line in done. heri seed on bottom less than 2 hours normally takes 12 hours.

the added pressure keeps the seeds partially submerged . I can see how the added pressure would help penetrate the seed hull.

Now if the tap will take off things would be great. maybe the baby food will help.

I ended up losing all seeds i cracked the seeds but they were so hard they kinda shattered. It was a shame but lesson learned. I will try another method next time.

Then, soak in some fertilizer. At first, every seed has food but the nutrients go bad over time.
After the next day, put it in a container with sterile soil so that the seed ha a clean start. Keep it safe and use screening to keep away bug-borne diseases. Keep in a warm environment(+25 degrees C) and away from interference.

Then, Let It Grow! and transplant accordingly.

Hi guys ..forgive me if I resume a so old 3d.. but recently I taken from Seedsboutique a pack of Original Haze by SaM the Skunk.. but they are proving very capricious... and wont germinate..

so would be interesting for me go deeper in this question...

P.S. got them into tap water since 24h and after seen them drowing I cracked the shell with teeth and repalced them in the water.. but still no tails..

Hi

I know the feeling. I saw in another thread about using growth hormones from tomato seeds to jump start old stock.

The theory was to soak tomato seeds for 24 hours cast this first soak off, soak again for 24 hours to catch the hormones then use this water to soak you beans in this. Will it work ?? Who knows.

I picked up tomato seed yesterday to give it a try but cant say how well it works yet.

I can say that pressurized jar didn't help. I also tried GA3 at varying PPM with poor results
on old stock. The few that did germ using GA3 came out some what mutated. Stratification didn't help nor increase soak time up to 36 hours. Sounds like a long time but it what the hell, cracking, scarfing and just about everything you can think of with little success.

I will let you know how the hormone treatment works. I have a large quantity of TWxHeri old stock so I will give it a go. These have defied every other Germ method so if it works on them it should work on just about any thing.

If you come up with something I sure would like to hear it as I have probably 30 old rare strains that I would like to get going. As it stands they are just souvenirs from days gone by.

Peace
GT
