Thanks for the great info. Ed, curious as to which specific hormones you have found beneficial in germing old beans? You claim rooting hormone to be affective in the "second stage." by second stage are you referring to the second step in your prescribed germ method?

OK I've had some horrible germ rates on my Tahoe's and Rascal seeds. Normally I plant into soil but when you have to go looking for seeds after 7 to 10 days it's not practical, so I'm back to paper towels. What I found with the seeds that wouldn't germ was that after a week or so an no tails or a small tail was that the shell was hard and had to be opened by hand. A knife scrape along the edge and then prying it open...
We'll see how many can make it now. I would have used sandpaper if I knew ahead of time they were so hard to crack. |

remember those Sam Thunk freebies from like 8 yrs ago?
hard to sprout for sure-none ever even showed tails in paper towels i scraped the hulls 2 weeks ago on a few with light sand paper both showed tails and first leafs and then died-at least progress has been made and I still have more of the thunks to try |

Greetings all,
Storing your seeds in rice will also keep them viable for a LONG time.... trick an old head taught me some years back.... I have seeds that have been sitting in rice for 4-5 yrs now and they pop with no problems... and i don't keep anything in the fridge or anything man... just a dark dry cabinet.... try it it works |
