I use one gallon pots with great results but that is as small as you could probably get away with.

Potting up develops roots much better. Just planting into a big pot can give you problems with overwatering and underwatering.

I also like to start them and pot up because I can pick off any slowpokes, and not get stuck with 5 grams in a gallon pot.

Really, if you don't have time to repot and take care of your plants, you're much better off buying $150 quarter ounces. When you do things half-ass, you get sh!t.

potting up is generally not reccomended because rootbound can severely stunt growth

mdanzig's results from "extreme raised transplanting" seem to indicate the opposite, in terms of potting up.

My results with original lowryder showed me that the difference between a one gallon pot and a three gallon pot were HUGE. The 3 gallon plant was at least 50% bigger.
