Camellia sinensis - tea
I am wondering if anyone here cultivates tea plants. I would be interested in growth rates under natural sun and growlights, nutritional requirements, and where I could get some live plants. I think it would take a long time to raise proper Camellia sinensis from seeds and I am definitely not that patient.
Peace, ~Skylined

I grew some C. sinensis along with a bunch of the newer zone 6 hardy camellias some years ago...fairly easy growing and vigorous, I think they are closer to Z7 in hardiness, if you live somwhere cool just bring indoors for the winter, I think there even used to be some acerage in South carolina but the quality was only good enough for powdered "instant" tea. Before that I tried to grow it from seed but they rotted before they germ'ed
Probably best to grow from cut, I wonder who has the improved selections? Cam Too Nursery has the species, best of luck to you peace , HS |
