Skylights - Open Roof System

Looking to see if anyone has tried this idea. Plan is to open the top floor of the house with skylights or light tunnels to permit natural light with a supplement of CFL's for early morning and evening. Will have 90% of roof opened, just looking for feedback on this as a viable solution.

Have a couple of reasons for this option. Main reason is that our home is powered by renewable energy sources, wind and solar. We really need to have a good handle on our power consumption, and see this as a way to stay lean and green. Not to mention keeping us off grid while offering a controlled environment in which to grow year round.

Dam us old skool hippie hold outs ;-)

Hey GREAT idea!!! you could collect rainwater from all the leaks you'd have in your roof- damn that pesky expansion and contraction-especially around joints- so I guess one would want to look into rain collectors-goin green is fun

WHAT!!! I take it you have no/little experience in construction.
There would be NO CHANCE of leaks if installed right.
Natural lighting has been being done for years( yes, done so many i dont care to count)

Yes to the OP this sound like a great ideal to save on $$$$$$

no chabce of leaks-I just fixed 7 on a roof last week- you said the magic word-"if" it's installed right. Why's everyone so concerned about going green- the earth will get rid of us as soon as she's ready-like a small surface nuisance.
