Slugs and the Grapevine
I'm about 30 days from seed sprouting and I am doing an outdoor grow on the east coast usa (41n right within 10 miles of the atlantic) and in my garden I happen to be running drizzle, sourbubble mom a, and bubblegumbo. F^^kin' slugs love 'em. 24 hour buffet. I want everyone to know I am not knocking gp's gear, the beans and seedlings matched growth with my wallyduck c99 x panama red indoors under a photoperiod of 14.5/9.5 hours of160 watts indoor pre veg. These indica beans grow vertically like a sativa outdoors. Its just that out of 3 drizzles, 4 sourmum a, and 5 bubgumbos I now have drizzle, 2 mum a's , and 2 bbgumbo's that aren't looking like someone took a shotgun to it. Rest of garden minus a gn cali-o and and an afgan are fine. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone growing grapepunched (grapevine) gear. Thanks for making elites attainable for us not so well connected grape. My post is simply a caution for od growers. I'm sure slugs won't ruin the whole crop. Keep breeding gp.

Small bowl of beer in the garden will help to rid the slugs.

UPDATE- Almost all of my grapevine gear this year has been stripped to the bone. I have a drizzle and two maybe three sourbubble mom a's surviving (and really doing well) after the last visit 2 weeks ago. The lone drizzle has no signs of slug activity at all (sativa leaning pheno) and the sourbubble's left have had all of the lower leaves stripped, almost like a lollipop. The area has had almost 4 inches of rain in the last two weeks, so the slugs are out in full swing. Doing everything I can to get them to harvest, because I smoked a buddies drizzle over the weekend, and the indoor was phenomenal. Vidalia onions, with a sweet\cherry bite, knock you down but coherent high. I think slugs prefer indicas as most of my indicas are being hit hard where as my sativas are relatively unmolested. Just a warning, GP's gear needs some serious slug prevention. For those of you that think I'm hatin', read my first post. Good growin', good tokin'.

The strain has very little to do with it I think.

Yea I don't believe any MJ plants come equipped with a slug defense.
I used to grow shrooms outside and the slugs would attack them while fruiting. To prevent that we used a powder insect killer around the shrooms not on and they would never bother them again after that. It was a safe powder to use even on them I believe and was recommended to me by an old hippie on the site. It was like 5 years ago or more and I can not for the life of me remember the name. I just know it exists and really works. Maybe you could do some research on safe organic or chemical slug killer and spread it around your plants? I didn't even need to put it on the shrooms themselves and it was 100% effective. I just don't see why there should be any reason to lose any plants to slugs if I could even save shrooms this way. GL and hope you find a good killer. EDIT: On another note you may want to also look up some awesome guerrilla growers dwelling here who would surely know what to do? Silverback comes to mind he's pretty damn knowledgeable from what I gather.

It may have been DE that was used to kill the slugs. It is very effective on lots of critters.
I hate repeating myself, but the best known cure for slugs in the garden is to put out a bowl of beer each night. They love it and are attracted to it. When they reach the beer, they can't get out and drown. Try it and find a bowl full of slugs the next day. |

placing a copper band at the stalk of your plant helps too. slugs hate copper.

Been a while since I checked this. Thank you all for the suggestions. I have grown outdoor now for 3 years and this year was the wettest spring on record in my area. From what I've been picking up all over my area is that the slugs had a bloom, and are reaking havoc from simple gardens, to commercial farms. I need to keep that sluggo stuff ready for next year. My patch went from like 50 to 14 in a week. The beer helped, but by then the damage was done. Went back there 3 days ago and all of the new growth looked slug free, however, I think the slugs in my area have a taste for indicas. Most if not all my GP gear is slug poo. If I harvest anything from this year's run, You'll be the 1st to know. Peace.
P.S. Looking to run more of your gear soon. Checking the bay daily for your next release. |
