can spiders eat pot plants?
over the past few days ive noticed a lot of spiders on my Green Crack plant. i first noticed the webs on the leaves (i dont think it's spider mites because the webs are on the leaf tips and extend down several node levels, which i've read is not how spider mite webs look). anyways im thinking it best not to kill the spiders so that they can eat any other pests, but is it possible that they can harm the plant? im growing outside so it's no suprise that im going to see a lot of spiders.
thanks! |

Spiders are predators - they catch & eat live prey. Your plants will be fine other than some webs stuck on them. Spiders are unavoidable outside but they do no real harm - more good actually, by eating pest insects...

if this is a sudden occurence, i'd check my plants real close to see what's drawing them.

Hey Tox004, have you actually seen the spiders, or just the webs starting? I only ask because spidermite webbing looks like regular spider web at first(long single lines from them migrating). Most pics depict them as only turning your buds into something that looks like cotton candy, but that is only when they get out of control. Your best bet is to go over you plants very carefully, especially checking the under side of your leaves. If you see little flecks of "sand", its time to get real preditors

thanks everyone for the replies. yes ive seen 2 spiders over the past two days. although im concerned now because im seeing tiny specks on my leaves as well as reddish brown spots, which makes me think ive got more than a spider problem. that being said, dont spiders eat spider mites??
BTW, i looked under the leaves with a loupe and could not find anything. i assume that the loupe is strong enough to find any type of mites, but i may go purchase some ladybugs just to be safe. i have a pic but cant post it because its on my computer - arg! |
