tomato advice

High

I would like some advice bout tomatoes. Where exactly and what exatly do i have to cut away??

I read that it's best you remove certain parts to get more and better tomatoes.

Can anyone corroborate this , is it like topping and thieving an mj plant?

You can remove the suckers that grow off the main stem and thin the smaller tomatoes that don't pollinate properly. That will give you bigger tomatoes not more. This is how they do it in greenhouses they clip the plants to a string hanging from the ceiling and they grow as a single vine. I've done this and it works pretty well to optimize space in my greenhouse. At Disneyland they have a tomato tree that they grow year round here's the link https://www.wdwnews.com/ViewImage.aspx?ImageID=101931

You can prune or not prune. If you're going to grow big giant tomato bushes, dont prune. If you are growing vertically, then prune. I pack my tomatoes in together SOG style and grow vertically, so I do prune.

If you choose to prune, you have to stick with it. You cant decide to not prune somewhere along the way. Well you can, but you'll end up with a mess of a plant.

I use the missouri method of tomato pruning whereby i prune the suckers after their first two leaves. Leaves are a plant's engine, and more is better.

I also prune the first fruit truss off to keep the plant vegetating a bit longer before becoming productive.

basically it all depends on how many plants in a given space you have.

heck, you don't even need to stake them. tomatoes will sprawl just fine.
