A Flo question

I was given a couple of DP flo femmed seeds. I grew the plant years ago, and it's been a long time but it seems like i remember them being big, branchy plants with a decent yield. I realize there are some issues about DP and DJ, but I thought if anyone would know anything about this plant that i would find them here.

I popped these 2 fem seeds, the plants are growing outdoors and are about 7 weeks old. They are currently about 1 yard or meter tall, with a dark purple, almost black stem and seem very much to be single cola leaning. Im not getting any side branch development at all. Im tempted to top it but really, im puzzled by its growth.

Does anyone have experience with this plant? It looks full indica. It's hard to see this plant at 8' and bushy?

Actually... I have a couple of those exact same femmed Flos at 5 and 3 weeks respectively. They're slow-vegging, dark purple-stemmed columnar plants with relatively wide 5-bladed leaves. It's supposed to be 60% indica (Edit: Stoner error. It's 40%.), so that much makes sense to me.

I topped the first one to make a mum but it's too early to tell (4 days) how that will cause the branches to react. So far nothing's moved much.

I find that topping or LST can help improve the yield of some DJ strains (FLO, F-13). They sometimes respond a bit slow when you do, but once they get going they can make nice bushy plants.
Good luck (and bring us pictures if you can)

Flo is a weird one, as it needs topping, but doesn't really like it! It always grows upward stems, no matter what, and will only branch sidweways reluctantly. I top my clones severely during the re-veg period, which is very long as a result, but it means they have many tops long before they go into flower.

I have tons of photos in my gallery of Flo and Flo incrosses - howeer, when I try and search my gallery, I end up with results from all galleries! I don't think that's right! However, check the Harvest Pics or Flo Breeding Question threads in my sig, as all the major Flo phenos are also listed in there.

Strainbrain, you described my plants perfectly. In fact, so did Elevator man. Thanks fella's. I was beginning to think i had some kind of freak. Im going to top her and see what happens. Your'e right about the side branching EM. I'm headed to your gallery

She has been slow to veg but she's growing along now. Ill get some pics up soon Dr. Bloom. I started to take a pic of the stem as Ive never seen anything like it. I first thought they had a disease or nute problem causing a blackened stem. Close inspection indicated purple. Dark purple.

I believe the DP flo is 60% sativa and 40% indica with more of a sativa high. Not to say which way the genes will fall.

Elevator Man or others, I was looking at leaf shape in your gallery because my plants have a peculiar leaf shape that i dont see in your male specimens. The females pics are too far along for me to tell much.

My leaves are "dagger like", pointed, serated and slender. At one point i thought the plants were going to be varigated, because the leaves were green and gold. I juiced her up with some nutes but no change in leaf color. As the plant has gotten bigger, the effect seems less. The leaves tend to curl upwards on the edges but are still very pointed and star like. Ive never seen this leaf shape. Their were some slight crinkle, but minimal.

Any thoughts? I ll get some pics when i go back to the field.

This is my original purple pheno growing outdoors - very dark purple - and very smooth and shiny too, with no roughness - the only plant I've ever seen like this. The 'green' pheno develops a more crimson stem outdoors.

As for the leaf-shape, I'm intrigued, as one of my phenos does have a 'dagger' shape to the fingers, but not nesessarily the same array shape that you describe. Look forward to the pics!

Im outdoors EM, and mine looks just like that minus the branches. Ill get a pic in the next few days but yes - nearly black, the oddest stem ive ever seen.

Over the years, in growing like plants, ive come to look for those specimens that leaf edges turn upwards because ive found it to be a good indicator of vigor and nute tolerance, but the slo flo isnt giving off that type of vibe at all. She may have different reasons for it. At 7 weeks, the plants have began growing at a moderately slow but steady pace and left untopped, i cant imagine what the plant would look like come october. A 10 foot bud do you think? If it's a meter now, it will have to get tall or sometihing.

This variety is very unusual in a number of ways.
