Does Marijuana counter the effects of anti-depressants?
Hello,
I have been on Effexor XR for a couple weeks now. Was wondering if smoking marijuana counters the anti-depressant/anti-anxiety effects? Any info would be appreciated.

Well, i haven't noticed any negative effects myself. On the contrary i have noticed there has not been a single trace of paranoia no matter how much and how strong mj i smoke.

Hello Brownpants,
Well this depends on a few things like strain and maturity some strains in the blue family have great anti-depressant/anti-anxiety effects? Others strains that are more of cardiovascular dilation effect that helps asthma (for me SK#1 and trainwreck) may trigger your anxiety, but not on meds like xanex. As for Effexor XR I'm not sure. If a stain is picked to early in has a better chance of triggering your anxiety. I have anxiety and asthma The asthma meds trigger anxiety for me. The best asthma strains do as well, but less often. So I'll smoke a sk#1 followed by bluemoon or blue kiev I hope to find a strain for both so i'm going to try a few of BOG & Refferman strains along with blue kiev x sudden Impact. |

Thanks for the replies,
DrawoH, is skunk#1 what you use for asthma? My brother has asthma, I didn't know there were strains that helped with that. Right now I am smoking some Blue Mystic. But, am going to try and get some california orange and boogglegum seeds for my next grow. I am curious about the after effects of pot on the body? Like the next day feelings, am I bummed out more than when I started, or is it just because I came down from such a happy place? -Peace-

Hello Brownpants,
Yes SK#1 is ones strains that stops my asthma wheezing. No next day felling affects from bud. The next day feeling yoyu discribed sounds like your depression. I do feel your pain The best way i have found to control depression and anxiety is to create a large self medical garden to keep you occupied. Constantly change strains until you find the right combination for you. Reduce the time you have to think about life troubles (without rushing yourself). Most of all enjoy outdoor activties with small goals to accomplish. I hope you fell better soon Brownpants |

Hey Brownpants,
I've been on Effexor XR for several years now. I have never known cannabis to have any negative effect in combination with it. On the contrary, I find that cannabis seems to mitigate some of the "wall of glass" feeling that I get from effexor. I should note that I am currently tapering off this drug -- I am down to about 1/4 my original dose. Cannabis DEFINITELY helps with the physical symptoms involved with withdrawing from effexor. (And if you didn't know, those symptoms can be SEVERE. I like reefer, a LOT, but I consider myself to be physically addicted to effexor.) Also, my two favorite strains are Blue Moonshine and SK#1. Sounds like there's a reason for that! As for the "next day" thing -- it could be cannabis. I am always a little extra irritable for the first day or two of not smoking after I have been doing it a while. Lord knows, it's not as bad as laying off caffeine, but it's not an experience I would pay to have.

Hey Ledhed, thanks for the info....It's good to know you haven't noticed any negative effects.
I have heard about the withdrawal problems on Effexor, I am not looking forward to that at all... I will be smoking a ton of herb during that time.My current strain is Nirvana's Blue Mystic (skunk#1 x Blueberry). I like this strain, it doesn't blow me away, leaves me relaxed and still able to function. I have some Citrocity (california orange hybrid) seeds on the way from seedbay  I heard California Orange is good for depression/anxiety. I want to get some bogglegum too, but have to save up for it and make some space in my grow room....or extend it  -Peace-

Effexor is VERY addictive. My husbands Dr. had him on that Paxil for along time,,almost two yrs (of HELL). When he had finally had enough of the flu like symtoms, feeling litteraly sick, & achey,,and in the end losing his job because he'd missed so much work due to these effects( if he was even an hr or two later in the day taking this medication then when he normally took it, he'd get Very sick,,, let alone the sexual sideeffect too
Not Good),,, his Dr tried putting him on the Effexor,, I immediately went to WebMd and did a search on it to find out the side effects,,,, needless to say they're Awful,,,, an he never started taking it. BTW,,, he has panic attacks/anxity and depression also.,,, the meds he takes now seem to work well in combination with MMJ,, with little to no side effects that we can tell,,, he's on Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) ,,, please please Please do some checking b4 actually taking the meds Dr's give ya,, if the side effects are bad, and you don't think you could handle them,, ask for something else with less side effects associated with them. Hope this info helps,, at least a little,,, good luck in your quest for a combo that works for you,, and Be Careful. |
