Blue Streak ( Blue Ryder ) Outdoor 2009 Grow

First batch of seeds I bought was eaten by slugs. I went to my headshop and picked another pack. This time I left them in cold frame but still slugs were able to get into cold frame and damage two plants ( one heavily and one not so ). So I went and "attached" some cardboard on the bottom of the cold frame and no problems whatsoever. In a week or so they are going out from cold frame and into the backyard.

Here is a little seedling that was damaged by Slugs in cold frame but I just went and transplanted it out in the backyard. Slugs left this one alone afterwards and is slowly coming to life again.

Here are my tiny plants in cold frame...You can also see some Virginia Gold Tobacco growing in jiffy pots there. I have 50 of those also and are going out in the middle of May.

Keep your fingers crossed. I will report from here on till harvest in this thread.

Hi beek! So you're only growing 2 plants this time? Or are there more hidden from us?

Best of luck, and keep it green!

Peace

SaH, slugs are doing havoc this year in my backyard.

Hehe you can see five there Tropic. Take a better look
I have another one that is coming out of soil and one I damaged. Am left now with three seeds that I just threw in the soil yesterday and are indoors on the window.

My bad, beek, I was so high I thought the 3 plants in square pots in the cold frame were the same!
Can you tell me a bit more about the tobacco? How old are they? Is it legal to grow? Not that we need things to be legal, but over here growing tobacco is as forbidden as growing weed (so that you buy government taxed cigs). Also, how do you use/consume it when harvested? (Just out of curiosity as I don't smoke tobacco).

Peace

Hi Tropic,

never really gave a thought about tobacco and legality of growing it but as far as I know it is legal to grow your own tobacco in my part of the world. I guess it is all right since I see people growing it at home for personal use. I would guess it would be a problem selling it. Quickly would someone come to the door. As you say government and their taxes...

Tobacco is one month old and I harvest leaf by leaf and just hang it in the barn till it is dry. You just slice it and roll into smoking papers. Just like our beloved herb

Don't you practice some kind of curing on the tobacco? I know locals here grow tobacco, but not much people will smoke it because it is quite harsh... sounds cool anyways to harvest and smoke your own, just like herb! It should be the same for everything we consume and can grow, IMHO... but hey, let's not highjack your thread, I have 3 BlueStreaks that have popped less than 2 weeks ago, and will be following yours closely!
Wishing you the best peace

Tropic I don't do any special cure. It is curing while hanging after it is dry I guess.
And I agree. We grow most of the food at home and buy from neighbours live stock when we need to fill up 6 months fridge of meat Nothing better than homegrown.

I really like this BS. They are growing nice. If smoke is good I will try other auto strains. Also hoping for some seeds to just throw around my property for "natural harvests" in coming years...

9Lives, I will update on regular basis. Will take some photos tomorrow and upload those.

I just striked three more seeds couple of days ago into the soil directly for nice perpetual BS outdoor harvest Still no sign of sprouting....but they will come out.
