Quick automotive question
05 Chevy TB..
lately, i've been hearing a loud, high-pitched squeal coming from under the hood. checked, it's either the belt that passes over the alternator (?), or the serpentine belt. now, weird part is, after the trucks been on for awhile, the sound fades away. most noticable on warm, dry days. cold or wet days - the squeal isnt there? what does the sound like? i doubt its just tension. my luck i'll have to replace whatever belts making the noise.. |

you want to make sure it's not a bearing if possible, otherwise
go to the local automotive store and buy a can of belt dressing....... |

but thanks tho! will pick up a bottle.. is it better to use this and wait for other problems if they arise, or just get the belt replaced? |

Just change the belt.... Belt changing's gotta be one of the easiest things to do. Also if its light outside you should be able to see the belts condition fairly easily... does it look greasy or grimey? If so it needs replaced.

My idler pulley disappeared the other day while on the highway, luckily the belt stayed on though.
My belt would chirp a little when at a stop light or on certain days( don't remember if it was wet or dry days, as it was barely noticeable); once the pulley came off it was screaming though. Then the new pulley doesn't come with the special bolt, so my buddy had to rig up a part from a 86' 125 two-stroke LOL |

Yeah, belt is either loose or worn-- Try tightening it, or just get a new one--
Belt dressing is not a lubricant...it is actually a li'l sticky...but that is only a band-aid....best to fix the prob--

My vote from experience would be to tighten and/or replace the drive belts(fan, alternator, A/C, etc).
