What do you consider......

To be a true full 100% autoflower strain ?

I myself consider a true af strain to show sex and flower under any light schedule and I test all the af I work on under a 24/7 for the first three weeks to see.

It saddens me that I even need to come here and point this out, again.

As you said, S_a_H, photoperiod-independent plants are a criteria in my book. As an example, I grow autos on a balcony (amongst other locations), which sometimes receives light at night when we spend time there. Most regular strains would have either not flowered, or hermied on me because of light stress. Autos allow for a nice harvest of nice herb without having to worry about these issues.
Hey habeeb, I would go as far as 10 weeks from germ to harvest, it doesn't bother me to wait a couple weeks more if the results prove worthy. Last auto I harvested was done at 66 days (just over 9 weeks) and I almost let it go to 70 but eventually didn't.
I don't consider the low profile to be essential, I can easily understand that autos provide a stealthy alternative to regular plants, however both can be trained, and I believe bigger autos provide a bigger harvest. But everyone has slightly different expectations when it comes to autos, which I think shows how great these plants are, they can fit most situations with just a little bit of tweaking/thinking.

Peace

For sure it is not an autoflower if it does not flower under 24/7 light. If a pheno wants to flower under a 23/1 light cycle and veg under a 24/7 cycle i would not consider it auto cause you could clone it. Auto imo means it is a strain impossible to clone because it flowers off of age not light schedule.

what ChubbyNugs said... Autoflower by definition means it flowers automatically right? Height, finish time or anything else are not factors in determining that. However they ARE the more desireable traits for many people.

no offense to anyone, but if you want a short, 8 week finisher, blueberry fits the description... but is not an AF... well... the auto blue is...well you know what I mean..hehehe

thanks for making this thread and the other one SaH, been saying there needs to be a standard for the meaning of AF for awhile now. AF strains must flower under 24 continuous light perday. Anything else isn't True AF.

You must know where to get authentic seeds of TRUE AF strains... there are so many knock-off sites selling AutoFlowering strain it is giving real AF pure seeds bad names due to poor results from these FAKE seeds. Is it possible to make a seedbank rating system on how thier AF stock stands up? Might weed out some of the knock-offs and save many people from getting crappy seed stock.

Agreed.
Anything that doesnt flower under 24/24 lights shouldnt be called AF.
Its quite simple, dont think theres much flexibility in the term.

I agree with SAH that it must flower (not just throw preflowers out) under any light schedule, especially 24/0.

I don't think making a simple "something x AF" cross can be considered an AF either. Just cuz its got some AF genes in it doesn't mean anything if it doesn't truly Autoflower under 24 hrs of light.

my Autoflower definition : Strain that shows sex 17-21 days from germination regardless of light schedule.
