please help me identify this field crop (farm field)
Hi,
There is a large farmers field here. I am looking to do a cornfield grow but it doesnt seem to be corn. I have included a picture of the small plant. It is growing on a large field very densly. Corn would be in neat rows with uniform spacing between plants, but these are growing all bunched up without any spacing really.. and its not uniform either. Does anyone know what kind of field (crop) this is? I want to know if i could grow in it.. Thanks |

If it isn't in rows then it could be a field set aside for grazing on either wheat or maize. We used to rotate our fields the same way, sow wheat or rye grass and run a herd of cows on it for a season, great way to rebuild the soil. You might look around the edges of the field, do you see any electric wire fence anywhere?

no fences anywhere and no wire either, there are walking paths around the edges.. you couldnt take a step into it without crushing a handful of these straws. There is a water trench running through the middle of it too
. It seems to have been sown with a machine but the seed-dispenser was very generous. ill get a picture of the field soon. Thanks for the help.

No need to get another picture.
That's Winter wheat. And when it's cut, the stems are made into bales of straw! See how close you were! Don't plant in it. It will be harvested at the end of spring, or early summer. Your young crops will be combined (as in run over by a combine machine). Gonna hafta find another spot! Sorry
